Hard Disk 'claims' To Be Full

im tryin to copy a 4GB file from a data DVD n my hard disk keeps sayin its full wen it clearly has plenty of space...ive managed to copy the exact same file on two other machines tho...

ive tried sharin the file through a LAN cable n it still givs me the disk full error...

Hi Shaks,

What file system is your Hard disk formatted to ? NTFS or FAT32,

this might not be your problem at all but there is a limit to how big a single file you can store in each file system and FAT32 has a lower threshold than NTFS though i cannot remember what the threshholds are, off the top of my head,

Yep that can be the main reason.

NTFS >>> File size limited only by size of volume.

FAT32>>>Maximum file size is 4 GB.

<from Windows Help n Support>

so probably ur file type might be FAT32.

u r correct in the value...lol...

The 2GB max limit is for FAT system. 4GB for FAT32.

jus got help from ruwds...thanks buddy...im on a FAT32 so im convertin it to NTFS...thanks for the replies bros n girl
