Failed Emission Test

hi all,

my fathers Toyota wagon (18 - XXXX) got failed emission test yesterday. But it never had eny issues in past and engine is smooth. Basically it was 100% great car except for the emission test.

at the test they have said, it burnes more Petrol.

It's EFI 1300CC engine

What are the things we should do to correct this? Do we need to take this to garage and do major stuff?

Get the car serviced first, change/clean air filters, get the plugs changed/cleaned. For it to be running rich, perhaps the air is clogged. Before the next test, put a bottle of Valvoline Injector cleaner in to a full tank of gas and run a few 100 Kms. Do the basics and try and see.

It will be better if you can clean the throttle body and injectors manually and an engine tune up as well. There are so many recognized places do good job.
