Whistling Sound From Engine Bay On Kickdown

Az

Question

Since recently I have started noticing a whistling sound from the engine bay on kickdown at certain RPMs. It goes off after a few seconds. What could be the possible reasons?

Thanks

Az

fairy god mother has installed a turbo while you're past asleep. :) out of jokes, what sort a whistling sound that is? I would rather look at any leaks/false air suction through the intake piping. Failing which i would look into belts.

Aha! Belts might be the culprit. Those were replaced recently. I will look into it thanks. I wished a turbo had been installed though :D The whistling sound is a bit similar to that of a jet engine revving up.

yep check the belts if it has been recently replaced. you need to retighten them a couple of times since they strech out to normal only after a few runs.

The problem was traced down to a muffler tip. This has been around for a few months but only since recently it has started giving out a turbo whistle sort of sound :)

Yes sometimes belts does give this kind of a noise. Best way to notice this by pouring small amount of water to belt when you hear the noise. check all belts, radiator, a/c, alternator. If the sound stops then its the belts cause the sound. If not it's some thing else which definitely needs your attention.
