Moving From A Hatchback To A Sedan

Killer-B

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

Having driven hatchbacks for about 2 years, I thought of moving onto a sedan for a change. I tried my best to try and not to post a new topic for this since most of the cars that I have mentioned below have been discussed earlier....I guess  and I am new to the forum of course..... tried search but it didnt quite solve my problems.

I have a budget of around 1.8-1.9mil and my main concerns are : comfort, availability of spares, resale value (since I will be using it for another 2yrs or so), a fairly good gas mileage (9 r 10+ kmpl)

My current choices are:

*Corolla AE110

*Sunny FB15

*Sunny N16

*Mazda famila BJ3P / BJ5P - I am not a mazda fan myself so I would like to know about these two models. I've heard that mazdas give trouble often...

*Honda civic EK3 (VIRS)

Are there any other popular models that fall into my price bracket? if so please make some suggestions...

Cheers!

Get a Mazda.... don't listen to people who don't own Mazdas... ;)

For your budget you can get a awesome condition 323.

Autolanka had a few for sale.

machan....... sorry if I sound stupid....but are 323 and BJ3P/BJ5P two different models? Familia is connected with BJ3P/5P is it?

AE 110 will have a good resale value, availability of spares

The Nissans are neither fuel efficient nor sporty

If u want something Sporty i think Mazda is the best option of the cars listed.A BJ5P SVT.....How about a BJ5W? Its also a nice car

In the Other hand the VIRS is also good but it'll give u less gas mileage and spare prices will be lil bit expensive.

Hi,

I agree with Speedfreak.. Mazda is the deal. I have used an FB15, driven the N16 and AE110. Mazda is more spotier and rugged. AE110 suspension cannot be matched though. N16 is a rite off. FB15 is somewhat better. Are you mopving out of a Mazda hatch to a Sedan??

Mazdas are good cars..but im sure ek 3 vi or virs will give better fuel economy than Mazda SVT. i have used both cars and currently using too. and i really dont see a big difference in civic spare part prices comapred to toyota or mazda.

Sometimes the gas mileage will differ mchn.Depends on the way its driven and Yeah the Virs Auto does about 9kmpl in city and the SVT gives lower figures at times

Spareparts-As u've said might be not a big difference in the prices :)

Alright......I count out the N16,FB15 and the civic. (my sister will also be driving it frequently so I dont want a civic to change its original shape  )

Here is what I found out about the mazdas: *323- Singapore Import comes with leather seats, security sys and has a higher ground clearance but minus airbags although 2001 and later models are equipped with single or dual airbags.

*Familia- Japanese, lower ground clearance compared to 323, and all other standard features except for leather seats.

So if I am going for a mazda, I personally prefer a familia. but a local baas told me that mazda spares are a little hard to find and expensive than of toyotas (in kandy) How is the mazda agent in colombo?

BJ3W is a sports hatch if i am not mistaken.....Machn I need a automatic transmission not a triptonic. (I assume that SVT means something like triptonic) correct me if i am wrong.

Nope from a starlet. I am also looking at the AE110 but I find it hard getting something with H/J registration nos. There was a 99' HX series car with a lot of modifications bodykit, spoiler, hi end sound sys, alloys and stuff and the guy was asking me a frigging 2M for it :action-smiley-060: with 110000+ on the clock!

That guy must be off his nuts... :jumping-smiley-013: But remember.. there are ppl who pay the price for well maintained cars irrespective of the mileage done. The going rate for an AE110 H/J nbr is between 1.7 - 1.85.. then again the condition matters. Its a smooth and comfortable car but more like a family car (not modern or sporty looking at all)

As to Mazda spares, no they are not that significantky expensive. Maintaining a triptronic is a bit expansive but not an auto or manual. Its more or less the same as a nissan B15. Timely atttendance save huge costs.

I understand there is no big price difference between toyota and mazda spares but the thing is......Are mazda spares freely available in kandy? The local baas guys say that it is not so.....

Now I am stuck between familias and corollas.......great!

Thankx for that..... do all mazda familias come with SVT? Why does this give a worse mileage than the Virs?

no only few mazda bj 5s come with svt ZL-VE engine. just like only ek3 vi and virs comes with vtec engines.

As a Mazda owner thought of replying your post. If your going for a Mazda then definitely Familia is the better option over

323. Familia is the Japanese domestic model and i think it has a higher market value compared to 323. And a BJ5P is a better option than a BJ3P since

BJ5P = 1500CC Engine = Better pulling power, Fuel economy..

BJ3P = 1300CC Engine = lower pulling power, lower Fuel economy compared to BJ5P...

Spares might be a bit difficult to find compared to Toyota. But think about the bright side. The initial buying cost if you are going for a Familia compared to a corolla is less. And its a really enjoyable and durable ride.

Dont think about the comments given by some people about Mazdas giving troubles often.

Do some research in the web and you will find that Familia/323 is actually one of the most reliable vehicles in the world.

I cant say much about the agent coz, i havent gone to them for any repair work. But i have heard that there service is not very good though. I have used my familia for about 6 months now and the only repair i had to do was

replacement of rear tranny bushes. That was done by the famous Mazda experts in Pepiliyana and they provided a pretty good service. :)
