Question

Posted

Hai,

I'm pretty much new to automobile and this is my first vehicle, so please bare with dumb questions..My townace (KR42) odometer display has a defect. (see the image below) It started with a small black spot at the edge and now it's grown up to cover the last two digits of the odometer. Can I replace the display? Is it available to buy, only the display? How much would it cost? Are there any specialists handle these kind of things or just the normal auto electrician can handle it?

I posted here before going to a garage to get an idea about the problem, pls help me on this?

Thank You.

Pls help me on this matter...Is this the wrong section to post this matter? If so pls move this to the correct forum...

me no expert in japanese stuff. By judging the way this LCD fits I get this bad feeling that you might have to replace the entire cluster. Yet again if you lucky enough to find the LCD from a broken speedometer cluster and a capable guy who can solder(?) fix it into your speedo cluster I think it might work. Why don't you just ring around to see this part (LCD display) is available for buy. Try Toy*ta L*nka and M* O*gani*ation.

Sorry to have to say this, but you need a new display. Somewhere along the way your glass wafer keeping the liquid crystals inside cracked and it ruined the display. This happens on watches or calculator displays. Like Harshan said you might need to get a whole cluster as no one will sell only that part.

Depending on the car it might not be that expensive. I got a Nissan Bluebird one for a freind once for Rs. 2500 from Delkanda. Its not an issue.

Best is to remove the cluster and take it and show the shops.

Thanks for all the replies.. I'll check for the cluster.. Do you know any good shop around, (btw I'm in Piliyandala) that you have good experience with? Can any auto electrician fix this?

Thanx again for ur replies..

VVTi and others, any clues as to the cause of this? (so as to take preventive measures if possible in future). Can heat due to parking under the sun cause such a thing ?
