Guys,

How Do I chk my fuel gauge is working properly?.

During last few weeks It gave several readings that I need to worry abt my fuel consumption.

Average fuel consumption was 11kmpl where now it has dropped to 8kmpl (same driving/road conditions)

I have noticed some sudden drops of the gauge which doesn't relate with milage.

Before I go for chicking on fuel consumption , need to verify the accuracy of the gauge.

Any ideas pls ....

thanks

Hi RALPH

what is your car model ? first , best think is to check it's resistance, most of the fuel sensors

are working between 0- 100 Ohms first get a multimeter and check the resistance depending on the

physical fuel in your tank it should very Ex:- 0 -10 ohms mean full tank if it between 85-95 ohms you are about to empty tank likewise

but this ohm ratio may differ from the model to model

thanks

Quick question? how do you calculate fuel consumption? generally you dont use the fuel gauge to do that. You fill a full tank run the car for abour 4/3 the tank and then pump again. Consumption= milage/fuelPumped.. the guage will only tell u approx how much you got in your tank. IMO this could easily be around +/- 5iters from the actual quantity.

Thats how I hv arrived to my average figures. (thanks to AL)

Basically Its the gauge I'm worrying abt. (I feel that its moving rapidly than earlier & not related to the milage I hv driven.)

Coz aftet 6/7 km drive this morning It has showed a sudden drop comparing to lasts night level.

If the gauge is accurate there is sth no right with the consumption.

Hi,

I too have noticed this sudden 'fuel behavior' for last couple of months. In my case I had done throttle body n injector cleaning, replaced s-plugs, but it still does not give km/l as it used to. I notice this sudden vsriance in fuel gauge.

I wonder whether someone is playing us out on Petrol
