Far as I know those are most commonly timed to go off when you need an oil change.

so does this mean you have to take your honda to the agent for an oil change? (cos i guess that indicator has to be reset by peolpe with the right tools)

There are ways of resetting that lamp by yourself, but I don't think that's advisable, at least not before taking care of the problem :D And yea, best to let a mechanic do it

not sure but someone told me it can be reset by disconnecting the battery wire. but if the problem is not solved it'll pop up again

It's something to do with disconnecting the positive terminal while the key is in the "on" position(not running of course). I know someone who tried that and it worked, but in the end they were cheating themselves because after all the car needed an oil change :D I think there are a couple of other ways to do this as well, but if you value your car best thing is to look after it as it asks :D

Note sure what you mean exactly; but if you're talking about the indicators that are actually built onto the battery cover, then depending on the manufacturer there are different uses. The most common type is used to indicate electrolyte levels and change colour when the levels drop or need topping up.

when the battery if its green its says ur battery is good but when its become red ur battery is dead need to recharge thats true.

i need .. one indicator ..cos ma vans batterys were changed thrice now it has a sealed type 85 ampere battery

How does this indicator help that problem anyway? It's just..well an indicator right :P If the battery is dead, it's dead. Don't need an indicator to tell you that :P

Thats the thing, are these indicators realy usefull or just a fashion thing?

why not ask from your vios freind since he already got one. i recon if the indicator shows the voltage its quite useful. i think old pajeros or the land cruisers use to come with one

Oh I see....well that's up there to tell you whether your battery is charging up properly.

If your battery's a 12v, as is often the case, then when your car's shut off and the battery's fully charged, the gauge on the dash should read 12v. Once you start up, if the battery's charging properly it should read above 12v.

If it drops to 12v or below 12v then your battery is providing some of the current and things aren't right. (This happens a lot in 4x4 vehicles when owners add series of high powered driving lamps; which could be why battery gauges are common in jeeps and pickups.) Or it could be that your battery's not picking up a charge or the charging circuit (alternator and co.) is acting up. Either way your battery will soon be dead if the kind doctor at your neighbourhood grease shop doesn't attend to it.

If the gauge on the dash shows a high reading towards the very top, roughly 16v or so, the charging circuits (alternator and co.) are providing too much current to the battery. Your electronic sensors may get fried or malfunction, and at this point you'd want to unplug any cellphones, laptops, amps etc. that you have connected to your car's electrical system. Again in this scenario you'd have to seek assistance at a local grease shop, even though your car may run/start up in the short term.

hmm interesting, by the way i checked that indicator in the dashboard its shows green, next to it written(maintainance required). some batteries itself gotta indicator showing green if its charged and faded to red when its discharging. u can always recharge it then its become green again.

Yeah, different manufacturers have different set ups for different needs. Its not like the speedo or rev counter there were you can generalize scales etc.

In my post I was referring to volt meters, which are the most common type. These meters list the voltage supplied to/from your battery at a given point in time and incorporate an upper limit, middle range, and a lower limit.

In addition there's also ampere meters which center on zero and have positive and negative scales indicating the charge running through a battery at a given point in time.

I know its kinda vague but I hope it helps.
