Please Help. Need To Import A Car

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I advertised my car in Autolanka and managed to sell within 24 hours. All the credit goes to Autolanka. Excellent publisity. Thank you Autolanka.

Now I have an idea to import a car and search couple of sites of those who export cars to Srilanka. The total cost upto colombo has given but I have a little fear about dealing with those people since they need to pay 100% to export the vehicle. Also I have no clear idea of the tax and other charges since I have not done this before.

Could anyone PM me some good local contact of those who import vehicles for individules?

Great help.

Thanks

Thilak

First of all you decide the model of the car that you intend to import. Then you can have the rough idea about taxtaion from a car dealer or the agent9if you have any contacts of SL Costom, You can get first hand information). Then you have to get hold a reliable person who is in the field of importing vehicles and see the availability of your choice (Color, milage auction grade etc). After that you shoud get a performa invoice and open a LC through a local bank. Also you must have a temp. vat number from inland revenue dept.(To obtain a temp vat number is not a difficult process). the person who is importing the vehicle will help you to open up LC and other documentory works.Once the car comes to colombo harbor, you may give the job to a clearing agent and they will do the needful for a reasonable fee (Aprox 20000 Rs)

Normally they give you CIF value which includes their charges also. If you would like to have a contact details of a local person pl pm to me.

Thank you so much mate.

Very valuable info. I checked a web site published by a Japanese vehicle exporting company and when select the vehicle they indicate the cost upto the Colombo port. If I give you those with the chessie number of the vehicle is it possible to find the duty and other charges to get it cleared?

I need to have most closest total cost as I do not like to get stuck at the middle.

Also kindly email me the details of a local person who could help me to proceed.

My email is thilakrk@gmail.com.

Thank you again

Thilak

Hi Dilesh,

Yes. It is less problems. We are new to this business. Best thing is to get help from experience people.

Again I got good response for my car importing request from the forum. I got 2 very valuable contacts from members.

Thanks Autolanka. You are doing a great job. :alc:

Didn't you import a Civic or open L/C for one recently?

Yes I am importing a FD1 and it is on the way now.The CIF value is 1.2 million Jap yen and I got a under valued performa invoice for 1 million jap Yen. Balance 2 lacks was sent through a local contact.

Duty is 2.5 million-2.6 million S Rs.

Total cost around 4.3 million S Rs. I think it is worthy because BN price at the agent 1.8 lt is 7 million+

you should probaly not give this guys any contacts. He just joined and his first and only post is for a customs contact. Sems a bit strange.

No use of having contacts with customs. They never go out of rules in this regard since everything is up dated in the system. Only thing is you could have a rough idea about duties. These days they are very busy in the port of clearing piled up cars and even no times to answer to a phone call.
