they gave a permit somewhere around 2007 and why another?

this is true, i earlier mentioned that from next budget they will reduce the tax by 10 - 15 %. in case of permit they will issue it for government boards, and few other government bodies as the new decision took few weeks back.

And they will adjust the tax system, they plan to issue a permit for private sector workers to import used vehicles from directly and the tax amount is not same as the government workers permit (and they will be some gap).

u people think this 10%-15% difference would make a big difference in the prices of the vehicle???? i dont think so..... although the tax have been reduced by 50% still the prices are high

15% will lop off 1 million of a vehicle that is currently 7 mil. Might not be a big difference to you but it will be to many people.

Its not a 15% discount. Didn't you pay attention the last time? If it works the same way a 150% (approx) tax comes down to 135%. Now do your calculations again and see.

Any idea from which segmnt they are goin to reduce? Sometime back there was a rumour abt reducing from VAT. In that case individual importers might not hav much of a difference.

Yes there will be some noticeable drop for a person who is planning to buy a vehicle for 7 million.

But in my opinion majority of propesctive buyers for unreg vehicles will fall in the price braket of 1-4 million. This 15% reduction in tax may not make much difference in the prices of these cars considering the increasing CIF values and JYen appreciation.

There will be some people who may be inclined to delay their decision to buy an unreg vehicle anticipating a further reduction in tax and this may decrease the demand for japanese used vehicles. You can imagine the outcome.

I don't agree with delaying tactics but it is for each individual to decide.

50% tax off brought down the prices of vehicles only by few laks(talking about vehicles that are in the range of 3-4million) & how come a 15% off could cut down 1 mn of a vehicle that is currently 7million?????

the eligible people will be different. they are looking at other Govt / boards, etc people who didn't qualify from the previous circular..

Going by the comments and some posts, it seems AL is being accessed more than the newspapers by some people...

May be the mods can suggest some newspaper links to be available in AL site and a revenue sharing on redirected links....
