Hi Guys,

I’m looking for a Honda Civic vehicle. Could you please explain the differences & similarities of Honda Civic VTech, Ferio and Vi-RS.

Many Thanks,

Eranda.

Well the other guys will tell about the prices and SL models and stuff, but you ask about the cars itself right? :)

VTEC is a variable valve timing system and i-VTEC on new cars have both valve timing and lift variable. It was introduced first for high performance, but later used even for economy. There are many types, most common here being SOHC VTEC, VTEC-E etc. If you want economy, go for VTEC-E (E stands for economy) or high performance, DOHC VTEC though that's not too easy to find around here as I've experienced. i-VTEC on new Civics is totally different, it's a quite powerful car when driven normally, and uses VTEC to achieve fuel economy, if you drive it very calmly always below 3000rpm. It's the other way round than older Civics, where VTEC was used to increase power. That's why people here are complaining about bad fuel economy on the new Civics, as the Economy profile will nearly never get activated in SL. The car ECU monitors the driving conditions and activates economy when it 'feels' its appropriate, that is in highway mode. We don't have highways here = good power, less economy.

Ferio is a Japan model, made in 4 Door Sedan style. It's just a Civic that wasn't meant to go outside Japan brand new.

Vi-RS, a trim model in Civic, something like Base, Luxury, Sports or EX Saloon, SE Saloon on other cars. VI-RS is a sporty model in the Civic, usually with a very good engine. But after the start of the ES series cars in 2000, even that became a bit less sporty, as suspension was changed to cut costs.

Hope I cleared up something for you. :)

Thanks a lot BLu3HaZe for very cleared information regarding the engine versions found in civic.

Actually I'm very new to Honda. I need to buy an economical civic which costs not more than 15laks. Is it possible to buy a car with VTEC-E engine for my budget?

I just check a Civic Ferio in Kandy YOM 98, 300-5XXX. He says 15lks and nonnegotiable. The car is in excellent condition. What you think? Is it valuable for the price?

What is your suggestion for me to get a Civic with my budget?

Many Thanks.

As I mentioned earlier I'm very new to honda and that was the 1st honda car i inspected. I couldnt ask him whether it is Vi, Mi or Exi. But I can call him and ask. But he is not answering the phone right now.

By the way I like to know definitions of Vi, Mi, Exi. Can anyone help me?

Where you got to see this car in Kandy? Any how for 15 laks you will be able to find 96 - 98 Vi. Price will varry from 13.5 - 15 laks depending on the condition.

Ah really. That guy told me that he bought it from a medical rep and he is using it for 1 year now. But the car papers are still open.

Does it has mesh grill or standard grill in front? Any way I don't know whether its same car that i've mentioned. What is the price?

Sorry machan; I dont remember the grill. He says that 15laks.

As you said car is in excellent condition and if its Vi (VTEC) engine take it to test ride, do the engine scan for check light errors. That 14.5 - 15 is ok price. It is the same price we saw similar cars in few months back. Also see why it's in open papers and check service records if available.

Do you know a place to do the engine scan near Kandy?

Willies Auto. Near Eriyagama Junc (peradeniya), he is the stafford authorized person in Kandy. Or you can take it to Magcity.
