Looks like severe impact with that lorry that's on it's side. Probably rolled over a few times too. Lorry looks to be on the correct side of the road. Hard to see how anyone could have survived that.

Same type of a accident has happened in between Habarana and Polonnaruwa road on last 26th. I received some photos through a e mail and newly registered Allion hood is missing and badly damaged the chassie.

Cause may be high speeding and lost control and hit a tree by the side of the road.

In most of the cases our road not nore ready for high speeds.

People used to speed up in outstations when they come across these nicely carpetted roads. However in a narrow road when a huge lorry or bus comes and they also speeding its just a matter of second to loose control.. may be one big stone in the road or one tyre goes off the road can end up with a tragic.

Corolla? Allion? Hilux?

Nilantha, anything you see in common here?

On a serious note, it does look quite screwed up, and looks like the car's left side made contact with the truck. I presume the car was driving along, lost control, spun sideways and went and hit the truck in its face.

And yeah i saw tha allion crash too. Though it wasnt as bad as this, quite hard to imagine somone walking out without VERY serious injuries.

Didn't want to reply to the initial post from a very enlightened member about the strength of a toyota body but since mr. central bank himself is here with his usual jibberish here goes

No car or any other man or even god made object is indestructible...

push it hard enough and almost anything will break apart...

The difference is that some manufacturers give enough attention to safety so that your chances of survival is far higher than Dilku's chinese Chana van!

It's shocking that some people can't seem to get this through their very thick skull into their bird brains!

Me too received that two e mails .

Do modern toyotas made of salmon tin ?

OR made in Japan + Chinese quality. :sad-smiley-047:

No-one claimed Toyota's were indistructable. I was merely pulling nilantha's leg for obvious reasons. But you seem to have taken this as an oppotunity to take a cheap shot at Toyota's in comparison to something chinese.

PS: you beat me to it ripper

my two cents.. these are production cars.. and toyota invests a lot of money on the value for money factor...

i blame the idiots who drive these things.. if u wanna speed safely get a car that is build for it with proper brakes and stability control.. there is a limit these econoboxes can take.... the problem is that our idiots buys these mass market brands and thinks they own ferrari's..

but as ripper said even the safest cars do have a limit..

case in point is gihans subaru crash near liberty. i saw the reck being taken off in a fork lift.. thought no one survived that either. but the new owner did survive..

so lessons to be learnt.. if u are gonna by a 121 axio allion or any other mass production car.. dont try to be a hero.. drive at a considerable speed.. and if u get an urge remember why u paid so much and got that in the first place.. fuel ecnomomy and resale value.. u aint gonna get both if u are dead or the car is condemed.

Hi Charith

+1 , still we get mad idiots driving like crazy :(

met 1 FB15(auto) fellow last week he was overtaking me at kadugannawa,

i never thought that it was a car being hearing the huge scream sound of the engine.

if that sort of a person is having a big dyno i can imagine how he would go to the hell or

heaven soon ..

thanks

I totally agree, Toyota only look for the money not safety at first........ But In UAE the story is different people drive the vehicle more faster and lots of accident but less people die, And one thing they use more Toyota Land cruiser here and it built with hard body (Left Hand Drive), so accident happened structure get safe in some amount.

But in Our country the TOYOTA body get crashed to smaller pieces when it meets an accident I DONT KNOW WHY.........

Big +1.

I was travelling that road myself a couple of weeks ago. Was actually talking with a friend how fun that road would be if I had my car. It is very tempting to speed on. Kilometers long sections that are absolutely straight, tho it does have crests and dips. Have to take care not to go airborne. And you have to be careful about the herds of parliamentarians too.

And Dilku, go take a long walk of a short pier. This is what a Chinese vehicle would look like after crashing at 30kmph. You need to be going a lot faster to do this to a Toyota.

yep... to add to that...not only mass production cars...any and all cars will have a breaking point! you can't expect it to be coming out ok after ramming it full throttle into something solid.

A custom ferrari or another exotic wont fair any better when faced with a bad crash!

Don't think thats quite what Charitha means. The Corolla is fairly safe, but not at the very high speeds. The brakes aren't up to it, the steering is too slow and not precise enough and the suspension won't react fast enough on the active side. On the passive side, I'll guess even upto about 100kmph the cell would be ok, and you'll be ok if wearing seatbelts. But this.... looks way, waay faster. 120 minimum? 150 maybe?

The only blame to put on Toyota is for not limiting the cars. And they won't coz people don't like being told what to do and they won't buy the cars if its limited to 100-120.

do you have any facts to base that comment on??

nowadays most toyotas if not all have excellent crash test ratings! also they have been equipped with all industry standard safety features available for that category of vehicles.

So according your post if a cruiser crash in UAE it receives less damaged than if an LC crash in SL?

And FYI...a land cruiser will always have better chance of survival when compared to a car like a 121...or an allion for that matter.

Also in UAE and in other developed countries...medi care and medivac services are far superior to SL...injured people can be airlifted to hospitals with far better ER's giving that extra bit of time to intervene and possible save their lives...

It's got nothing to do with lesser quality toyotas coming to SL and getting it crashed to small pieces like you say!

Like, it must be the climate, man... like, you know, the heat must've weakened the structural integrity of the car... like, you know, what water does to paper... :to_pick_ones_nose3:

yeah must be that!!! Or everything that's coming to SL is inferior and whatever that's available in other countries are superior...even when it's the same bloody thing :P

mind you most recon jap cars in SL and JDM spec cars... Even those are inferior to the same model available in UAE...the export version :P

what for the talking machang!!! :P

of course...sarcasm is an alien language to you! Jeez!!! I would love to have a chat with the HR head of Central Bank!

In fact i will make a note to ask about you when i do get an opportunity!

and btw...toyota and many other responsible manufacturers recall their cars when they spot a problem.

If your chinese chaps ever got to do it they'll have to recall the entire damn stock :P

let's just hope they build roads better than they build cars... had an opportunity to eyeball the airport highway construction @ wattala recently and even the backhoe operators are chinese... seems the only job for locals is driving the regular road vehicles and directing traffic.

I bet Dilukshan would say that the chinese build the best roads too so your fears are unfounded :)
