Guys;

Today I received an email saying there is a company that hires Drivers for any occasion. Originally the email came as "Dont Drink and Drive - Call-A-Driver" have you any one got this email?

When i try to access their website; its not hosted yet. Anyone had this service before? Is it safe?

If so; damn; can explore the nights without getting coped in Gall Road after couple of shots :alc:

Edited: the topic should be "Service" :action-smiley-060:

I've heard of this 'service' before. Quite some time ago in fact. If it does exist, don't think it's new.

In any case, I wouldn't just give my car to be driven around by somebody I don't know anyways, whether I'm sloshed or not.

Suppose in the mid night how the driver could return? You may have to give lodging or else drop him back :D:D:D

I wanted to start this business sometime back but.... In most cases the driver will have a foldable moped/bike to provide his return.

anyone heard of 688 or any of the other dozens of taxi companies in sri lanka? When you make a phone call they will come pick you up and drop you off at the party (for a charge). When you are done you can call them again and they will drop you at home. What an amazing service they provide.

Who needs them when you have enough of metered three wheelers on call now :P And damn good rates too, the full trip would probably cost less than the minimum charge of a cab :D Of course, if you're not in to getting a bit sweaty or inhaling the fumes of the cars near you then cabs are the way to go.

And yea Hakjay, even I thought of doing that especially after seeing that top gear episode where the guys did that to review some cars (the foldable moped thing) but it's kinda risky in the event you get guys who rob the passengers, rob the car, or crash the car. And as some folks mentioned, people here may not really trust someone else driving their car. Yet I'm sure some enterprising guy will no doubt start this up in the future, and a million people will then copy him (like the metered three wheelers).

yeah true the metered 3W offer a very fair service. in the past when car isn't around coz itz in garage or any other reason i always resisted going by 3W coz of the very unfair prices they charge but now i figured in some cases metered 3W is actually cheaper than going by personal car.

Are Designated Drivers that hard to find about these days? :alc:

I was a desinated driver one day while in college. Didn't work out so well. I Drank more than every one else, took my mountain bike out of my jeep and rode it home. Lef the other guys stranded and woke up with scrapes all over my body and 2 bent $500 rims on my mountain bike. Ahhhh those were the days.

Good thing you didn't. With plenty of cheap taxi's around and armed with the super natural powers we lankans posses in bending the law as we please a business venture of this kind is sure to have a very bleak future.
