For your budget I think you could go for Familia later models like 2001-2002 1.5 Lt.

If not Civic EK3 Vti 1999.

I prefer these two models.

Wait for the Hondaists to come tell you how much more economical and powerful the Civic is and how it's the best car in the whole wide world... :D

I dunno what's better, but that Mazda wagon is sexy! And it's a manual RS! What's the engine capacity btw?

I must agree with you that the mazda wagon does look really good. Even considered getting one while shopping for cars but the owner wanted way more than I thought it was worth.

Same here... saw one at a sale in Dehiwala, but was a bit beyond my budget and had signs of corrosion. If it had been somewhat cheaper I probably would've bought it.

Machang there are loads of Mazdas on the road, I doubt finding spares will be much of an issue. And I believe Mazna motors is a reputed dealer for Mazda.

what would be the asking price for a mazda hatch these days? any idea??

If you want performance for your budget, there is also the VZRs. Maybe even the P11 Primeras.

yep, decent performance coupled with good looks!

but i have never seen VZR up for sale. i've heard primeras have a low second hand market.

Dude all these cars are good and they don't have many problems. Just pick something that suits your needs. The main thing you need to look at when owning a car is if YOU like it and YOU are comfortable driving it. If you are not a freethinking individual then I suggest you join the rest of the flock and purchase an AE110 corolla at an exhorbitant price. But, if you are someone who prefers to have something you are comfortable with then buy what you feel looks good and makes you feel comfortable.

I haven't heard of an major model specific problems with it. Either way if you can pay a mechanic at a garage to have a look at it before puchasing that would be great but if not just check the major thinks such as coolant leaks and engine oil color. Did the car shift smoothly when you drove it? how about any noise at idle?

BTW after you purchase it take it into a garage and have all the maintanence and oil change done and check the important parts such as the brakes. Also if you can and you don't trust the seller on when he changed the timing belt, just get it done for peace of mind. BTW as with all used cars expect to spend a little on maitenance. Usually owners tend to not maintain their vehicles right before selling em and doing it right after getting a car will help you drive for a while before needing any work done.

BTW what color is the car? I saw a black one with chrome chrome wheels that looked really cool. Be sure to post some pics on this thread.

Mazda wagon is one lean, mean, sexy machine. Probably the best looking wagon model in SL. I own a similar grade familia sedan. So, welcome to the club machan!

One thing that you should be concerned is the type of engine oil you use.

Mazda's VVT technology is known as S-VT and it needs to have smooth oil always. Otherwise you'll run into trouble.

Check whether the previous owner has done regular oil changes. If you find any sludge in the engine, please do a flush very soon(i mean a manual flush)and put the correct oil type. Since you'll be going to M**na, they will inform you about this. Apart from that, there aren't any known issues with this model AFAIK.
