Is This The Right Part?

Question

Posted (edited)

Ok guys here's the story;

Basically I'm looking at a part which sits a little above the turbocharger and has two large hoses comming out of it. One is from the turbocharger. Then there's a third hose, which is a small vacuum line. The part is basically a housing for a large diaphragm I'm guessing this would be what we call a turbo wastegate. Anyway The housing is cracked and I need to replace it and was wondering what I should call it when I have to go to Delkanda looking for one. Is there some local name for it?

if you posted a picture, maybe Mr. "Best Diesel SUV for permit" Venura can ask his buddies from UM (assuming this is for the IO and not the tribute)

more seriously, can't you remove the part and take it with you?

Man I feel like an idiot. That didn't really occur to me until now. Well I guess I should take if off then. BTW it's for the io.

is this the part ? if so its a wastegate actuator.If you are not driving in the car that has that part its better to take it with you, but if it is its not a good idea to remove the wastegate cause your turbo might over boost.

Well I ended up calling that place in kandawatha and they asked 12,000 for the wastegate. Anyway I think that's a bit steep so I'll probably have to go out to Delkanda next week in search of one. Until that I may just try to fiberglass the one I have and see how well it holds up. Have some resin and and mat left over so woulnd't be too much of a hassle I guess.

I dont think fiberglass will hold if your turbo has a high boost level, any way better than nothing.

BTW did you check if it was just the housing or is the whole thing in bad shape ? maybe you can try to find just a housing.

Here's the funny part. I'm looking at all the wastegates and they are all made out of metal. For some reason the one I have is plastic so either I'm completely wrong about what it is or mitsu decided to be cheap and use ABS plastic. Will take a picture and post it to be sure later today. Oh yeah and while it looks a little like the picture you posted, it does have two large hoses sticking out of it and a little vacuum line too. Oh well I guess I'll have to take the pictures.

BTW the part it in really bad shape. Seems like previously the turbo #####ed of something and split it into two at the joint. The previous owner had used epoxy to put it back together. Now the nipple for the vacuum line broke off.

Why do people have this bad idea about plastics? Refer the Glock and the Canon 60D.

Well I don't think all plastics are bad. Just the plastic used to make this particular part. I agree that there are plastics out there That are actually more capable than any metal and they are less prone to stress cracks and what not.

LOl, sounds like your cars previous owner was a "makabass" fellow

hope you found the part.
