    X-trail is my choice. hyundai terracan is another option. Its the korean version of montero. Avoid kyrons with the 6speed auto gearbox.

    Tesla got $460mn loan + $250mn from the IPO + a discarded vehicle factory (Their plant 'NUMMI' was discarded by GM and Toyota). On the other hand, there are car makers like ford, Nissan and GM who have billions in their bank accounts. Tesla is currently riding on the 'cool' factor and a few protoypes. Once the 'cool' factor of Tesla vehicles are gone and other manufacturers with their mighty muscle come up with cars which have more options and features, where do you think Tesla would be? BTW, the body styling of your Model S looks notoriously similar to the Ford Focus... By the time Model S comes out in to the market, the body styling would already be outdated. is that a part of your 'hit'?

    Most of the Terios's in this country are brand new imported by Softlogic. If it is a recon (JDM version of terios is known as Bego), then what Watchman and Komi said are true. Brand new imported Terios's have the following differences from Toyota Rush.     I thought this question would have been asked in the forum before, but a search didn't reveal anything. Is there any place in Sri Lanka which sells ELM327/OBD cables? I know they are available on eBay but I am specifically looking for a place where I can just pick one up asap.

    Ford festiva is made by kia. Newer kias are pretty good but older ones are not so. Amongsr euros, older fiat puntos need very little maintenance. Places like milano motors and nelum motors sell spares for peanuts. Why not consider one of those? If i was in your position i would avoid all the cars in your list.

    Your nickname and your choices suggest that u might have an affinity towards euros. How about a peugeot 206? U might be able to get a pre-english number manual one for your budget. Contrary to the popular belief its not difficult or too expensive to maintain any of those cars, as long as u dont land with a lemon. For parts, u always have ebay if nothing else works out. So stop listening to car mudalalis and car baiyas and go with your heart :-)

    Seriously dude, if u r writing a paper on public policy analysis or taxation or economics, this would make a good topic. But for an MBA dissertation, the 'problems' faced by sri lankan automobile salesmen are all caused by the tax system. U wont have anything much to analyze here as an MBA student.

    It's always a good idea to inspect a car first thing in the morning before it is started for the day. Will help u identify a lot of problems - oil leaks, engine issues, gearbox issues and even some running issues.

    Common issue with some auto tranny cars. No need to pull your hair out over it. How much is an AE110 gearbox anyway? 25000 bucks? If you wanna find out if this problem exists with the car u are after, go to see the car as early as possible. Wake the owner up and check it when the car is cold.

    That's normal when the engine is cold. Check if the fan works when the engine is properly warmed up. If not, u may be facing a minor electrical niggle.

    U do realize that once u plug in a diesel engine,there will be a reduction in the comfort factor?
