    Carina Ed..!!

machang, I live in Malabe. Today morning I saw a GD **** numbered purple/maroon ED for in a car sale near Koswatte Junction. When you are driving towards Malabe from Koswatte junction it's on the left hand side. Not more than a 1Km from Koswatte. Keep looking for a board that said Kamal Engineering or something. UIts before Laugfs supermarket. It seemed Ok from the outside, though there was no tree growing from it...!! Good luck.
  3. To harp on the virtue of getting the agent to look in to the car....... On Friday I took my darling P11, to the agent for tune up as i was heading out of Colombo for the weekend. They replaced the plugs to the factory specified NGKs and air filter and a minor clean up of the throttle body and ran a diagnostic that yielded nothing. Mind you the day before I changed my oil and filter with valvoline Fully Synth with an original Nissan Oil Filter. I pumped full tank (90 Oct) on Sat morning (52 litres) and went to Pallebadda and came back with 4 full sized adults and no fancy driving, guess how much I did and how much gas was left? I did over all 345Kms and I had pumped back 27 liters this morning to replace what was used. So i basically did 12kmpl on 10 year old 2.0 Liter car with AC on and a full load. Also from what the parts guy at the agent told me, it seems that will start an aggressive price war to knock out all the importers of filters, Oils, plugs etc. My costs = Original Air Filter, Rs. 1500, Set of 4 Original Plugs, Rs. 1550, Oil Filter 650, + Labour So comparatively, going to an outsider for your vehicle maintenance has no plus side at all!!!
  4. I had a Platz and a 121, both with the 1NzFE Engine which is the same as in the Vios. In those engines, the factory has already optimized the performance/economy. All you can do is a regular service, cleaning of the filters/plugs, etc and run a diagnostic to see what else needs to be done. No such 'tuning' as such. Just take it to Toyota and take the trouble to wait and get the work done as it will be worth the trouble. Hey, you would have busted about 2.5 to 3.0 mill on this car, so what's a few thousand rupees and a few hours katta which is the only downside. I used to take a book and my ipod and watch through the observation glass everything they do. Servicing was all i got done and I had no issues with both cars till the time regrettably sold them.
  5. I agree with you. Almost all the so called 'experts' in and around Colombo are vain and rather unprofessional. I think Zakie will be the best out of the lot. From the few times I have spoken to him I found him to be more accommodating and friendly. With no added attitude. I have learned the hard way after driving various cars for the last 15 years that in the end, all I can say is, TAKE IT TO THE AGENTS!! for issues like tuning and other critical areas. Simple reason being, they have access to technical data, parameters, and other info, outside mechanics don't have. Most of the time. Unlike cars of yesteryear, your average garage mechanic has no clue about the inner workings of the EFI, EMS and other various components. I have a P11 and I took it to the agents for a tune up and I was very happy with the service, attention, advise and the results. Ok, its a 2 litre, so I am not expecting 14kmpl, but she runs smooth, and I squeeze out 9-10Kmpl, somehow. Mr. LA, has collected a lot of bad vibes and I haven't spoken to anyone who praises him. So my advise is, if it's a Toyota, take it to the agents. They will know what to do and what not to do. My two cents worth.

    Rpm Meter Not Working

Hi I have the same problem in my P11. Still couldnt take it to the guy in Rajagiriya. His name is Rasika, 0714121142. The problem in mine is in the RPM sensor module at the back. Not a critical error. Might cost about 3500 for parts and labour.
  7. Hey Nuwan, I have a P11. Can I bring her over so I can get a feel of how many BHP she is producing. I would love to put her on your dyno and check. Its not a turbo, though. Will it register in your system? I can feel the pull of her N/A 2 litre, but can never put a number to it like you have done.
  8. My sentiments exactly... I think an AE91 engine will slot in well, and I am sure plenty of them around as they came out during the great 'conversion to diesel' craze'.
  9. Nilantha a) What car do you drive now? In your opinion what is the best car around that will suit our wallets? c) Why do you hate Nissans' so much?
  10. Guys....whew!!!! Ok first indication of the CAS error iss that the Check Engine light should have been on, it wasn't!!! I checked with my regular mechanic and he sent me to a guy called Rasika in Buthgamuwa and he said its a common issue with Cefiro/Primera/Bluebird dashboards where the circuitry for the meters gets messed up. Its no biggy. He needs to remove the instrument cluster and do some change over. Simple as that! getting that done next week as there is no rush now. Its annoying to see the needle way past the red-line and resting on the opposite stop through!
  11. Damn.... I dont think I am happy with both answers!!!!! Bummer! Just busted 20K replacing the clutch and a new radiator too. Lets hope......! Thanks guys for the info and the heads up. Really appreciate it.
  12. Its a Nissan Primera P11. Petrol.
  13. It is only the rev meter. Rest of the needles are fine. Where exactly is the sensor?
  14. Thank you Don, but the thing is the engine is fine. Its the damn needle that does it. Engine doesn't rev up unnaturally. Today all the way to work from home the needle was stuck at 8000!!!!! But the car was running fine. I disconnected the batt lead and left it now to see if the ECU will reset itself by the time I leave in the evening. Lets wait and see. A friend of mine mentioned that the Dashboard circuit must be having a bug somewhere. But to see my removing the batt lead and checking.
  15. Dude sorry for the piggy back. I thought I will save the admins the space. My P11 engine runs pretty smooth since I changed over to Fully Synthetic. How ever, today I saw the funniest thing. Today I noticed that the rev needle is behaving rather erratically. I mean I was idling at the lights in Borella and the needle was showing 6000 then went 7000 and dropped to 0 and then went up to 4000./ I revved the engine and it stopped doing that, but I feel that is is showing more than I feel the engine is doing. What the reason? New battery, leads are tight, no rust, loose connections, nothing. All systems in the green. What the story?
  16. is it just me, or is everyone anti-Nissan????? Whats wrong with you people? Its as if all cars except Nissans don't break down, or don't give trouble or have don't have great fuel economy!!!! Long before Honda Civics were screaming in with their Vtecs or Toyotas started on VVTis or whatever, Nissan was making waves in the High performance circuit!! Only Mazda can equal Nissan when it comes to some heavy duty street legal performance cars. Even Today the 350Z is a headache even to the Germans! The Skylines and the Primeras were burning tracks all over the world long before Honda or anyone else started anything serious!
  17. yes Nilantha, I am also quite intrigued to know. I just did a complete overhaul on my P11/SR20 and changed to Mobil 1 and now runs only on 95. What am I to look for? Also I had a Corolla 121 with the 1 NZFE and ran for 3 years on Mobil 1 and 95 and till now I haven't had any issues, the guy who bought my car still continues the same trend and so far no blown engine...so whats the deal. Please share with us. We might have missed something here.
  18. I SPILLED MY COFFEE....THIS CANT EVEN BE TRUE!!!!
  19. try replacing the whole Distributor itself. Just go to any one of these second hand part shops and say you are looking for the model distributor. I think it wont cost that much. better off replacing the distributor itself as if you try to be specific the guys will rook you.

    Pulsur Cj1

Go for it, a friend of mine has a pristine condition CJII and he says he will not sell it for a long time as he gets good Kmpl (9-10) and parts are fairly common and is comfortable. Please dont listen to some wackos who knows next to nothing about most things but hoots none the less. See if you can nego with the seller and knock the price down, or if you want that particular model, look around and you might find a good buy. I was told never to buy my Nissan P11 but I am so happy with her, and I never had to ask a bowser to come behind me also. I have been to kandy and back twice on the same tank and had to fill up only on the last lag of the second journey and that is also in Yakkala. Mind you I have a 2litre in the front. At the time i filled up I had more than 440Kms on the clock and my tank holds 55 liters. Do that math. Nissans are great cars if you know how to drive them carefully.

    Carina Or Vios?

Nope, not yet. Everything is enabled. Using Firefox and it never happened before. Tried restarting the machine also. Also, it is my opinion that a Carina is better value than a Vios.

    Carina Or Vios?

hey any reason why the Cars for sale pics are not loading? Or is it just my machine?
  23. best is to check the car throughly machang. Open the hood check for loose belts, mounts, cables, anything. Then if you can, (SAFELY) see under the car for anything that might have got snagged. Then start the car with hood open and see where the sound is coming from. Switch the AC on and off (get some help) to do that while you are in the front and check. You never know it might be something simple. And also you can do this, get someone trustwprthy and let him put the car on to D while pressing the brakes ahrd and wacth the engine. If its moving a lot with a thud when He/She engages gear that means your mounts are busted. The Vits engine has a cowling on the Radiator fan that breaks easily. Might be that and a piece is stuck somewhere near the fan. Like Don said without having a real feel of the sound cant figure out what it is.

    First Few Kms

I drove my Wife's 121 brand new off the showroom with only 7kms on the clock. next day we went to Galle and I pushed it all the way. Toyota said there is no such thing with new cars anymore that they can be pushed to the limit from get go. When we came back the clock still had less than 300Kms. She has clocked more than 14000 now and still runs like the first day. So just realx and enjoy the car. Of course don't rev unnecessarily while stationery. But normal driving is fine even if you are having a bit of 'fun'.
