You took the words right out of my mouth dude, the legacy of some of the Nissans are astonishing, starting with the Skyline range. Correct me if I am wrong, a friend of mine from Auz once told me that the Bathurst 500 was made open and the Japs brought in the first batch of Skylines with their 2.4 motors and Ceramic turbos. Very soon, the Skylines were literally running circles around the massive Ford and Holden Supercharged v8s. the other teams were so pi55ed off that they made a rule that only V8s can compete and no more Jap Ricers!!!! Ha ha ha ha/ Apparently the Nissan Manager walked off the podium after the last race (they won) and told the gathered journalists that V8 drivers are pu55ies. I don't know how true this is but it sure was fun listening to the story.

    Guys Please Help Me .

Thats is very wrong! I have a P11 and my wife has a 121. In between us we have owned Toyotas, mazdas, Hondas and a Subaru. Her last car was N16 and my last car was Toyota Platz and a 87 Accord before that and a 90 323 Interplay. All these cars have issues of some sort or the other. the Mazda had a squeaking AC Comp that never let me down but never ran quiet also, the Honda had a faulty Water pump and a forever failing brake force distributor that could never be fixed completely despite getting all parts from Teck, the PLatz had an annoying rattle that could never be traced. But each and every one of these cars had their won unique way of giving joy. Especially the Honda. So far the 121 drives ok, but then she is brand new. My Primera P11 has its own set of problems. Last weekend it also started acting funny and I had to replace the IC in the alternator as the battery was about to explode due to over charging. As it was too expensive to replace the damn alternator, my electrician jury rigged a regulator outside the alternator and she is working fine now. But then when we drive cars that are older than 5 years we have to be prepared to put in some elbow grease in order to make them work properly I do no simply agree that there is such a thing as a crappy brand or a crappy car. Its all about how we use them and how we take care of them. Toyotas have problems, Nissans have problems and all other man made machines has problems. Its just a matter of being mature about it and looking after the cars properly without blaming all around for your problems.
  4. yeah of course, as long as they are just superficial scratches. Nothing to worry about. We have a big lab and he messed up my wife's car by keeping his paws on the door when she comes in. I bought a bottle of Simonize color polish (Black) and rubbed it off. No mark left at all. he still does it now and then but I don't get affected anymore as it comes off easily. Same goes for cat scratches. Chase them away a few times and it will be fine. Don't lose sleep over it machang!
  5. Apoi, keep dogs away from cars, especially the big breeds, We have enough scratches and nail marks on the doors and the front end to prove this. If the cats climbs on the car while being chased by a dog, some dogs will climb up on the car and you wouldn't want that!!! the best way I have found to get rid of the cats off the cars is a to chase them away a few times with a lots of noise and commotion. After a few days they wont come near the cars. Trust me, you might have to lose sleep a bit and look silly but it works. Or if your garage is covered and locked, open the hood and keep.

    Nissan Engine Swap

I think thats the way to go. I just checked on the engine again and it is definitely a RWD. Might be too much trouble swapping her in. What will be the cost of turbo upgrade with all the plumbing and who can do it in SL?

    Nissan Engine Swap

Hi, experts, I am thinking of swapping my SR20DE with SR20DET that a friend found for me in Japan. I am thinking of dropping this in to my P11. What kind of trouble am I getting myself in to? Let me know the Pros and the Cons.
  8. Cant seem to make myself happy about this Gajaba Supercross as Intel indicates that the LTTE used this to infiltrate into the Air base and stayed under cover to take out the Helis and planes later in the night. Damn!
  9. Does c******o V*P On The Spot cover this sort of thing......?
  10. Thanks machang, Must find out if there is anyone who can manage that. Th P11 will be along term project, he he he he. Moolah is the key. Think I will start off with the braces and do things one at a time.
  11. Love the controls. Very simplistic and elegant. No clutter at all. Great Stuff.
  12. I know this off topic, but since cornering is the key message here, where can one get a set of strut braces (F&R) for a P11? What will be the cost?
  13. Are there wives like that? Who demands their husbands such things? Holy jeepers!
  14. Renault Clio...looks like...
  15. I bought the P11 6 months back for 11. I am the third owner and rarely for a SL car, both owners have used the car very well. Even the mounts were changed at the agents. It was accident free, and all the bits and pieces works. No ABS and no air bags, just the manual tranny coupled to a 2litre engine. Reliability wise, I have had no issues and the previous owner claims that the car never let him down. Ride is very comfy, my BIL has a 212 and i prefer the P11 ride to the 212. Economy wise, one has to consider that IT is a 2 litre car while its not as good as a corolla, i do mange around 8-10 with careful driving. But I can tell you, open roads and gas in the tank, she flies and i so much fun to drive, especially in hilly and roads with bends, Mahiyangana-Kandy road was built for the car!!!! But on the down side, the parts are bit expensive. I recently replaced the complete front suspension with shocks and boots and bushes and it cost me 74. But then I replaced everything OEM. Paraut and 555.
  16. [However yes the Carina would be the low risk choice and most ppl will opt for low risk. But then like Arc Angel says there are other cars out there in that range as well. Like Hondas or even a Nissan Primera which is nicer to drive than the Carina. Low risk = Low fun cool.gif .] Amen to that. Apart from the 406 and the Carina (both great cars, mind you) I can personally recommend a EK3 or a P11. Having owned both (Current p11) I can safely say you have a winner in both. Trouble free (if you do all service and maintenance on time and without feeling stingy). YOu will see years of trouble free running with a car that any basic garage will be able to help you out with. But my bet is the P11. Loads of fun and reliable.
  17. Right on! Having lived overseas, it was the small things i missed,, the beaches, the drives out Colombo, the family and friends. True, SL is crap in many ways...but its OUR crap. I don't know about others, but I stay here and go down with the ship if I have to. No where like home! Failed state or not!
  18. ABSOLUTELY!!! Change oil regularly, keep air filters clean, replace/clean fuel filters if old, make sure your plugs are clean, make sure the car is tuned, make sure the tires are inflated properly and drive sensible and safely. Thats the best you can do to your car and to your pocket! All else is just a waste.
  19. Just curious, where can one buy a set of decent Fogs for P11?
  20. Aaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!! 40K and still counting later!!! Parts were bought from all over. TAAS for Shocks, 12500 for the front pair, The lower arms at Pioneer were 35k each, Just changed the bushes at a lathe, Hub bearings were changed, Control Arms were changed, Ball joints, rack ends, Stabilizer Bushes, Boots, also two sets of bearings that came on the steering assembly was stuck so had to change the also. First time I have seen such a set up. The only thing I could not do so far was getting a strut brace for her. Hoping to get it from the alignment place after 2pm today. Lets hope... Thanks to all of you, I did use some name dropping and Saibo smiled politely and smacked me with a 20k bill!! Ha ha ha ha ha!!!
  21. Thanks machang. Parts being removed as we speak. Once we know what the needed parts are I will drop a mail. Thanks for the help. Really appreciate it. Hoping to get a strut brace as well. Anyone know where i can get one?
  22. Hi all, I am planning on completely overhauling the suspension on my P11. A*W aside, who has the best parts in the Island when it comes to all the spares. I know that the front suspension in the P11 is a tad complicated. My mechanic can handle it but the main point is sourcing the quality parts that will last awhile. Also how can I source strut braces for the front and rear. Appreciate your comments....
  23. Machang it's still worth it if you just want a runabout. No repair can be that bad and you must be careful when you buy it in the first instance. There are very old cars that are still 100% reliable out there. Go for one of those. End of the day its a machine. Eventually it will break. But the time frame you have is too small for you to worry about any major repairs. There are plenty of good cars out there. Just need to be patient and look. An Old Toyota AE90, 323 or a B11 will just serve you fine without much trouble.
  24. Just curious, if you are planning on using it only till November 2008, why bust so much money (2.3-2.4 mil)? I mean, practicality aside, what's the point. Best is to get a old Mirage or Colt for around 4-5 or even a EF2 Honda and start the selling process a few months before you have to leave. You might not lose $$$ with a 700k investment as much as you would lose with a 2.4m investment. Am I making sense?
