could he mix 90 and 95 to stay in the good range? Or pump 90 and an octane booster?
  6. yep! Your turn! :-)
  7. If you are very worried, A*W will do a tune-up for about 5k (unless plugs need replacing).
  8. Quite normal, don't worry. Once the engine has been fully warmed up, the RPM should drop even lower. Ideal idling RPM should be in the owner's manual, around 800.
  9. Seriously?

  15. I know Pet#o install them out of the dashboard, but check the mechanism they use first, infra-red is the latest with the lowest chances of messing things up.
  16. Toyota cressida?
  17. The problem could be: 1) a faulty display in which case the solution involves checking the wiring - no problem. 2) No signal to the gauge - simple: trace the wire to the crankshaft, fix any loose connections, mechanic can do it easily. 3) Heat (maybe generated by the flywheel? Not sure) damages what your guy calls 'the sensor' (which is a misnomer if it is an older model analogue kit using the voltage pulses) over time. This is harder to repair, but not hard per se for a mechanic. It should require some parts. INstall another meter temporarily to see if the crankshaft speed rate readers are messed up. If they are, then parts are called for, if they are available or not, I have no idea, possibly you may be better off installing a new RPM meter - maybe a infra red laser one, but it may be quite dear. Can't comment on the cars, sorry, but the metre is repairable and replacable, no worries.

  21. Err.... ok wonderfully cryptic response, I must say. Not sure what a 'cheating forum' is, but I'm sure its something mysterious and exciting. But what I meant was if one of the two options you are considering is too expensive for you (from your post saying that the market price is too high), then there's not much else to discuss. But certainly you are free to discuss it anyway and as much as you like with your apparent abundant free time Maybe by the time you finish discussing it, the price will have come down!
  22. Haven't you answered your own question then?
