Well if you are looking for a decent family car toyota is not a bad idea. Whatever people say the brand Toyota has earned its reputation as a top carmaker due to its durability and its value for money. The million mile toyotas are nothing new and usually averagely maintained ones can last on its stock engine for some good time. I have friends who have corollas and vitz's that have run well over 200k and are running with the same original engine, only regular oil changes and service are done. For example the passo (2013 kgc30) i got was one of the best purchases i made. I used it for 7 years with no repair on anything other than replacing its battery after 5 years, a tuneup after 5 years and a tyre change. It is true that there are a lot of abused toyotas lying around but there is an equal amount of well maintained ones that also go for averagely good prices. Same goes for the Axio, Other than regular oil change, new tires, battery and tuneup the car is pretty much trouble free for now. Did some extras like a headunit, led fogs, HID etc.. but still the car drives pretty smoothly and fuel efficiency is well held. People who own Toyotas would agree on the same and which is why they demand a little on their cars. As for depreciation, its hard to tell but in general the popular models hold its value well. For example 2007/8 vitz cars go for almost the same value as a fit GP1, Corolla 121's still stay well above the 2 mil mark even though its a 20 year old car. People might argue that the buyer base is bloated but the car sure serves your purpose if you need a reliable car to get around town with averagely good comfort and good value. Most toyotas even though not made to be used in Sri Lanka do well on our roads, Exceptions maybe with camry etc.. ) If you are more about having fancy tech or features you might want to consider to opt for Hondas, they come loaded with options for the price point of a base or X grade toyota. But the reason behind tarnished honda reputation is partly in the fault of misconception. The cars are well made and designed but some models were not meant for sri lanka's weather condtions and roads, thats why the engine oil burning on GP1(ones in japan were recalled), The DCT issues on Grace, FitGP5, Vezel etc happened. This created fear on people who are looking to buy them secondhand, but Civics and Accords are great cars with good comfort. As for Mitsubishi, I am yet to experience it and hoping to do so in future, From what i hear the car is more about the driving feel and enjoyment than driving a soft and quiet car like a toyota. Not gonna comment on this brand but the reviews and expert opinions from here say that is actually a pretty good brand for a car/Jeep. To answer your question 1) Toyota - 141, 161 (axio 2013ish), Allion(2007-9), Premio (2004), Nissan- Bluebird G11( check for dashboard issue and wheel hub), Sunny (2011-14), Honda - Civic FD(check for hybrid battery), Accord (euro) Mitsu- Lancer EX, Outlander(older model) 2) hard to tell but expect 2-3 laks of depreciation if the car has passed its initial depreciation. Ex: If you buy a 2013 axio for 3.9 Mil expect to sell it for 3.8 or 3.7 at least sometime in future, Depending on how the economy goes sometimes our EFFED up community appreciates prices in cars and they sell them for no loss or profit. 4) Passo 2013 model 9,500 - 11,500 LKR at A*W (castrol magnatec 5W30 Oil and all other original lubricants, New oil filter), Axio 161 - 11,500-13,500 LKR at A*W (Castrol Magnatec 5W30 etc.. ) , Air filter for Toyota around 1500, Oil filter around 1250 and Cabin filter close to 2000. Battery replacement if needed (13,500 upward maintenance free 3K/Lucas), Tyres each cost close to 11,500 Dunlop, Hifly(chinese and not recommended at all, costs i think 6,500), So generally expect to spend 10-14k on a toyota sedan to service with good lubricants. Insurance costs close to 72,000 for Axio. ( I haven't had to replace any parts so not sure abt costs for parts nowadays) (https://lexusenthusiast.com/2019/02/22/matt-farahs-lexus-ls-400-reaches-1000000-miles/#:~:text=The million-mile Lexus LS,break the million-mile mark. https://www.motor1.com/news/347462/second-toyota-tundra-1-million-miles/#:~:text=It's the second known Tundra, the mechanicals weathered the mileage. ) - Million mile toyotas for u to read -

@Hyaenidae Unfortunately no machan.. the seller decided to keep it or something and i got stuck selling my car in a very bad time trying to do a quick swap. Now im stuck with cash in hand which i dont want to invest on the current inflated prices. For the price i sold my car now there are 2008 Allions and older cars going at 5 Mil. Lancers are spiking at almost 5.5 Now
( hope none of u guys sold ur cars in this bad time for a swap )

Damn...that is a hard blow. Hope you will sort something out soon. Hope the prices will come to a reasonable price point sometime soon (probably higher than before but not this ridiculous). I suppose the Lancer owner realized he would run in to trouble finding a replacement if he sold his car.

Thats interesting. I thought that people in Japan did not use crossovers or SUVs as much unlike USA. In the contrast that they use more Kei cars and subcompacts to help with easy parking and daily commuting. But yes, the appeal for wagons have declined over time due to the trend of people wanting to have a utilitarian vehicle (anything from a jeep, SUV all the way to a pickup) as it ticks the boxes on cargo and also gives the additional features such as AWD and whatnot. I had a wingroad some time back and even with the bad fuel economy the car was still loveable cause of the driving feel and the cargo space that i once fitted with 8 people LOL. On a separate note, Well the new corolla touring does look sick, I mean the design is pretty eye catching.

Want to buy a car around 1.5 milion
HaeylM replied to rathnayake's question in Car Buying Information
I had a Fb13 (doctor sunny) long time back, Excellent car if you want a non flashy ride that has a really good driving feel. Solid body, solid engine and loves to rev. I sold it for around 9 lacks back then at 140K on the clock, even if its say 1Mil you got 5 laks left to overhaul the whole car and mod it?? On a separate note, Bluebird SU14 is a decent car but gas mileage is very poor from what i know. Also the car sits very low and some of the older diesels (65-) had issues with excess black smoke. (could have been negligent maintenance). Other than that its actually a comfy car. Nissan parts are generally easy to find and not that expensive, although some mechanics find it annoying to mess around with the GA series engine. But generally its cheap to insure and running costs are averagely ok. The car driving feel is pretty refined, not as smooth as newer cars but definitely feels good to drive and reminds you of the driving roots. what is best about the cars in this era is the close balance between the mechanical side and the electronic side. Post 2005-6 cars just got more complicated with electronics and nowdays cars are just switches and ECUs all over. Within ur budget you can also opt for March K12 (Ive used it and can recommend), Toyota Duet, Nissan Cube, City (2000-2), Accent hatchback, (these are all a little newer) But solid cars pre 1999 with some solid ride would be FB13/14, Presea, Bluebird, Ae100, Elephant back corolla etc..- 31 replies

you might want to check your vacuum hoses and the fuel pump. Engine could be starving from fuel under heavy load at low rpm. How are your spark plugs and MAF? Also you might want to check your EGR. Nishantha down attidiya bakery junc is a good mechanic to diagnose problems but he is a little pricey. ($$$)

I guess it has it both ways, When importing from japan itself the CIF value for the fielder is cheaper and so you can auction a fielder for a few lakhs cheaper from japan and by the time you clear it in Sri Lanka itself it is a little cheaper than the sedan. I guess the appeal for wagons among the general community here and back in japan plays a role in this? Its almost the same car and packs the same features.
-
There are more hybrid imports of axio than the petrol version but the price difference is very minimal (+- 2lakhs, sometimes petrol is cheaper). The hybrid one was actually more expensive back then but now its almost the same price since the hybrid batteries in the hybrid version cost almost 390K to replace. (factoring hybrid battery replacement at almost 4 yrs, there isnt a big difference in the savings from hybrid version compared to normal petrol one, i can do around 9-11 in city traffic and 13-14 in mild traffic, outstation around 16-18, once 20 but a once off) The wagon version (fielder) is a lot cheaper than the sedan, you can find it around 5-6 lakhs cheaper than the same year axio sedan.

Well Aqua is not a bad car if you can save up some cash to maintain it well. Its ride height is pretty low(if you have cargo in the back then bumps are gonna hit you hard). but now battery replacements are pretty decent and can be done at TL. Car comes with some decent features but the car does depreciate fast. May i suggest passo? I used the earlier model (2013), it was more comfortable and spacious than vitz and the sound insulation is also a lot better than vitz even though they share the same 1KRFE engine. Only issue you are gonna have is the second hand market cuz vitz is more popular but if you dont mind some depreciation the car is actually pretty good to use. Other than a battery swap, new tires and a tuneup the car dint give any repairs for the entire 7 years. OFC i maintained it at agents but thats not a bigger concern as the car was pretty reliable even on long distance trips (unlike aqua which broke down mid kadugannawa). You should be able to find the newer model's HANA grade or MODA G (now i think) for around 3.5-7 mil. Also if you are ok with a second hand you can try honda Insight? Not the best looking car but seems to tick many of the boxes similar to what you may look in a honda fit GP5. Other options for you include Mazda Axela , Nissan G11 Sylphy (2011) (really comfy ride for long trips ), Perodua Bezza (you could find a newer one for 3.5Mil), Vios (2011-13)...

A*W does not back up the grey imports of these nissans just like the leaf AFAIK. So in the case of a faulty battery you might need to source it from japan directly and get a local mechanic to install it and reconfigure the car for you. In the future as this car gets popular things might change if a particular agent steps up to import and provide aftersales service.

That is your low fuel warning sensor circled in red. It will sense when you are nearing an empty tank and glow your dash board low fuel light.
-
Both are pretty good choices. Fuel wise the FD might get better values due to the hybrid system in place in certain later models. Comfort in this car is pretty good and the design is pretty eye catching. the 141 in the other hand is a pretty nice choice too. most of them were brought down here brand new for permits so you should be able to find a car with genuine mileage and good service records. The dash is simplistic and comfort wise its a pretty nice ride. A relative of mine had one for a long time and the car's 1.6L engine was pretty smooth and had plenty acceleration for LK roads. Fuel wise it you should be able to do around 8-9KMPL. Both cars are going to have a fair share of mileage so just look out for beat up and abused cars and try to find yourself a good ride and you should be all set for your next car. Just be mindful of timely maintenance and enjoy the ride!
-
It could be as simple as the bulb of the fuel warning indicator being faulty/burnt out since its an older car. But to repair this you need to take apart your dash, remove the meter cluster carefully and then swap out the bulbs or test out the issue. It could also be a fault with the wiring harness which may be throwing off the signal wire from the fuel level indicator. In the case of a faulty low fuel level sensor it should be a pretty straight forward swap. Id recommend taking it to a good mechanic and testing it out before swapping out stuff.
-
Check this thread. I've heard that its actually a pretty good car with an impressive fuel economy due to the Nissan E-Power technology. Plus the acceleration is impressive since the battery drives the wheels while the engine is only there to recharge the cells. Unfortunately I dont own one but hell yea, like @Devinda_Z said the Nismo version is a beaut.

I have an Axio 2014 and so far it has been a pretty good drive. Market wise the axio was almost 5 Million a few years back and even the newer WXB model goes for 6.8Mil so id say its not bad for 4 mil considering how people are demanding 3-3.5 mil for the older 141 axio/Corolla. The 2014 one has a bunch of better feature upgrades and ride comfort is a lot more refined compared to the earlier 141 with a more simple dash layout. I am no horoscope reader to tell if the car will depreciate or appreciate in the future but as a general rule you cant expect a car to not depreciate over time. Just make sure you dont get a hacked up version with a very high mileage. find one with proper service records and you should be ok. In general toyotas hold their value well in the SL market compared to other brands and id say for your budget its a good choice. Alternatively you can check honda civic GD (2009-11ish), Insight (2011-13), Lancer EX (a lot of experts here on the EX and pretty good reviews), Mazda 3 (2011ish), Nissan Bluebird Sylphy G11 (2008-11) I havent done a blog entry on the axio yet but here is a quick run-through i wrote about it recently. There is no perfect car so expect to spend some cash to maintain it and look after it well, when its time for an upgrade expect to sell it for a lower price than what you bought it initially. Its part of the car ownership experience, Enjoy your ride and mod it from time to time.

I have an Axio 2014 (petrol version, non hybrid 1.5L) Well for me its pretty much a decent car for the price point. Comfort wise: I like how the seats are pretty spacious (not as soft as a premio but its way better than in hatchbacks like vitz or fit), There is no leg hump in the back so the person sitting in the middle doesn't need to keep their knees up. The headroom is ample and i like how it has adjustable seats. Trim and features: The smart push start key is pretty useful as you don't need to go through your pocket to start the car, All 4 doors come with auto power windows so its easier to wind up all 4 windows, The TRC etc. is useful to get through muddy puddles or rain situations without slipping the car much. the power mirrors come with winkers and the projector beam in the headlight is elegant and distributes the HID lights well. Multifunction steering is useful to control the audio while driving but unfortunately there is no cruise control. The faux carbon fiber finish on the door trims and dash gives it a good elegant finish, there are plenty of storage compartments and bottle holders for all 4 doors. the boot is pretty good enough for daily use. Audio system comes with a good 4 speaker system with tweeters in the front. AC system is a automatic climate control and includes a NANO-E air purifying system. Car has ample lighting for the interior and the handbrake and CVT gearbox adds some better feel for me to the car compared to other toyotas that come with the E brake or foot break. There are plenty of aftermarket accessories for the car. Driving wise, the car is very soft even on averagely bad roads, the cornering is pretty sharp and the turning radius is good enough to do U turns in Colombo traffic without the need to reverse and recut. Engine pulling power is decent and not as boaty as a carina (But this might be different in the hybrid car as it has a different powertrain), Car comes with 15 or 16 inch wheels and run flat tires (expensive to replace) . Gear changes are smooth and the ground clearance is not bad for a subcompact. overall its a decent family car for its price point, you get a lot of car for its value along with the Toyota reliability. I would recommend the car well specially since it has got past its depreciation, so you can find one for a good price nowadays.

From experience 45-55 Ah would suffice. Same capacity im using on 161 Axio and earlier Nissans. Currently im using 3K (Thailand brand) maintenance free battery, comes with 2 yrs warranty. So far no probs for 1 n half years, holds charge to crank it even when the car is not used for almost a week. Lucas is also a really great choice and was pretty reliable. Amaron not sure as i haven't used it. Exide is a lot cheaper but had some bad experience with exide on earlier cars as it sometimes abruptly died and sometimes even gave off unstable voltages.
-
It could be an indication of worn out piston rings or even a faulty crankcase ventilation.
-
I have a school sign sticker on the left corner near the A pillar (the left side is almost full of stuff, Rev license, JAAI sticker etc..) and an MCM sticker on the upper center of the windshield, Haven't been copped yet! . But, on a legal standpoint if the sticker obstructs the driver's view of the road which may cause him/her to not be able to avoid a road accident then its illegal (COP RULES). So when sticking it make sure you can see out clearly and not to stick it like the tuk drivers with dapper stickers that are bigger than their windshield.

Do you hear timing belt squeals in the morning in a cold start? mismatched timing can give throw off a little vibration. Replacing engine mounts are a place to start but since its going to be a little expensive, so before you do try and check your ball joints and tie rod ends.
-
could be an issue with the network frequency mismatch. Either log into your router: Connect your ethernet, go to command prompt and type ipconfig. This will give you the default gateway for the router, enter this default gateway address 192.168.1.1 (usually) in your browser and log in ( Username usually admin, password is either admin or password, should be written in the back of the router), go to wireless settings and then change the wireless mode to b,g,n mixed. also change your wireless channel to a lower one like 6,8 or 10 Also while you are in the wifi settings go check if your wifi password is correct as this may have changed when you reset the router. Additionally, you can go in your pc, in control pannel>Network and Internet>Network Connections. right Click on your wifi adapter, click properties and click configure, in the configure click the advanced tab and make sure 11b is set to (long and short) and 11n is enabled (this gets disabled sometimes). Click save and try to reconnect.
-
Did you check your engine mounts and its rubber bushes, and the steering rack bushes?. Same issue comes up with cars that have the 1KRFE engine due to excess engine vibration. The tune up might have cleaned the throttle body and the engine might be idling lower than it used to be. this might cause you to feel a bigger rattle at low rpm if your mounts are worn off.

What’s the Difference between Honda Fit GP5 2013,2014 and 2015
HaeylM replied to Sanka99's topic in Feedback & Suggestions
The topic of GP5 has been discussed over and over again specially about the DCT issue that it shares in common with the vezel. Please search for the keyword GP5 on the forum search. Additional keywords like DCT issue GP5, Engine warning lights GP5 etc may help id recommend lower the mileage better as always, but sri lankan grey imports have reversed mileage (even the ones with fake JAAI/JEVIC certificates have done over 100k and the meter shows 25-30K) . so check around, maybe get someone with a good obd2 scanner to help you out in figuring out the real mileage. As for the well known DCT issue, the replacement comes at around 40K intervals( depends on how well you use it, could be lower), But now people are more aware and know how to maintain this to extend the mileage before the DCT fails. The clutch plate replacement requires the car to learn the new clutch so be aware that you cant to this repair with makabaas engineering. Car itself is decent and as for the options you get more car for your money compared to other hatches in the budget. Do note that since sterling is pretty expensive if you end up having to change the battery or do your DCT repairs there. -
Depends on what features come with the system setup in the first place. Certain japanese systems like Eclipse and Carrozzeria which come in toyotas have inputs for Steering wheel control and other sensors, these will show the readings on the car and also allow remote controlling the system with the steering wheel buttons. Most chinese systems come with SWC but not the other inputs. Eitherway the info that is displayed is very limited and even the best aftermarket systems (there is a model in pioneer which reads RPM, engine temp etc) are very expensive and are fairly inaccurate. If you are interested its fairly simple to take apart the dash pannel around the 2din player in a vitz, carefully remove it without scratiching or braking the tabs, remove the 4 nuts holding the 2 din player and take a look at the back of the player for what sort of inputs and outputs are included in your wiring harness. There might be a sticker on the top or side of the unit's shell that indicates the wiring diagram for each color coded wire, this will give u an even clearer idea. Most of the japanses systems that came with the cars I used were just DVD players and were mainly connected only to the GPS antenna and ETC machine. Once i had one that was connected to the aircon system but was never able to find any aircon details in the 2din unit. In case you dont want to mess around much you can take it to A*dvance Audio or P*tco Lanka and they will take a look around. But save some cash and go DIY if you have the time and patience.
