Hi guys,

i think this question never came this Forums before. But i think this may be usefull question for any one who importing a car or van.I have a Curiosity how much tax we have to pay to custom , if we import a accident or crash vehicle to sri lanka. it may be 2008 -2009 one. but will it be same as usual tax or less than that? and is there any department in sri lanka that we can find out above kind of inquiry?

I think you cannot import any damaged vehicle to SL, unless you repair it and then import it.

I remember few importers imported accident cars to srilanka in late 1900 and they were all had body damages not total wrecks doors and rear damages with small damages in front. They were bought 10% of the cost of road worthy cars from who dismantle cars for spares.Accident cars which can drive only they shipped.

All who imported those cars visited Japan personally bought them in Japan and shipped them to Srilanka.

Ten duty was less. If I am not mistaken importers paid normal existed duty with no reduction as a accident car what was at that time as like a roadworthy car.

With high duty I do not think it is feasible project now.They normally bought all spares what was necessary for the repair and in a truck spares was shipped out spares was invoiced separately.

You can get a verification from Customs accident vehicles are allowed to import.
