Normally Insurance agent will issue you a temporary certificate until you get the car registered. Once the car is registered you can have the insurance certificate.

You can drive the car from the dealer's place to your home with the temporary insurance with chas. no. plates. You are not supposed to drive the vehicle with out registration any way.

The temp certificate is a cover given untill you finalize on the actual insurence for the car and also for the drive from sale to home. There is no chage for this temp cover. You can not drive with CC number plates.

I think the CC number plates belong to the motor vehicle dealer. They are unlikely to let you use them once the car is sold.

'The Don'

CC plate (Trade) now issued I think only for Dealers of Automobiles. For Garages also CC plates was issued early. Specified CC plate is owned by the registered dealer behind the CC license all details are given that read as only can use for a demonstration during sale of a vehicle this means only one person who is interested in purchasing the vehicle. To travel for a repair. No goods or passengers will be transported free or for a reward.

There is a special form that the dealer has to log and carried when the vehicle is used on the highway the Date time drivers details from the start point to destination and back.Police can issue a charge ticket if the Driver do not produce correct Signed form from the dealer

Above is for my knowledge some times this can vary.

Our diligent and humane police staff wrote a ticket to a cousin when he went to get the number plate fixed. He had the front number plate leaned in to the windscreen from the dashboard. Reason? The number plate should be displayed in the proper place. These imbeciles don't need a "proper" reason to write a ticket.

True, was going on a trip once and the driver was stopped for smoking, when the officer found there wasn't even a single cigarette in the van, issued a ticket saying not seated properly blink.gif

Seems not, like using cell phones, need to keep both hands on the steering wheel other than when changing gears according to the police unsure.gif

Incase you're asking smoke, and then drive, that's still legal afaik. But this is SL, you never know when it'd also be banned rolleyes.gif

Well I was talking about smoking while driving. Eitherway I've never been pulled over. Even if I don't have anything in my hand I still only keep on hand on the wheel. Seems as though I can control the vehicle much with the the one hand.

On another note. If I ever get pulled over for smoking while driving I'm going to be pissed. My dad, for as long as I can remember, would drink drink a beer while driving....never got a ticket either.

Yes! Someone I know was fined for a similar reason. The Sinhala wordings in the ticket goes "riyaduru sitiya yuthu thana". Couldn't stop laughing for days!

Well atleast the police around Kandy deems it illegal to smoke while driving, so even around Colombo it should be the same, though not all may know it as it's probably another new law. Incase you've been quite lucky, better take care if you do that.

As for your dad, he too has been lucky so far then, but sometimes a good discussion and green notes can solve it all in this land like no other wink.gif

Yes similar to the person JohnGalt spoke of, it was written "riyaduru asune wadi wi siti aakaraya" rolleyes.gif
