Hi,

I've a childhood dream in buying a Land Rover Defender 110 and I intend to buy one in the time to come. The latest. Please forgive me for my lesser knowledge in the subject. First thing I come across is I want to know the origin of Land Rover. Some forks are saying that the ownership has recently been changed to Tata Motors. If this is the case, I have serious doubts about the trustworthy of LR. Seondly, I want to know the running costs, fuel consumption etc. Last but not the least, please be kind enough to supply me the details about the garages or mechanics from whom a meaningful repair can be done. Thing is that I'm relatively new to SUV's and I want to know the A-Z in repairs (first 50000 kms) running costs and other features noteworthy.

Thanks.

Welcome to the forum. There are Land Rover experts in the forum and I'll leave it to them to answer most of your questions. Both Jaguar and Land Rover are now owned by Tata, though I don't think this has affected the quality or capability of these vehicles. Most Land Rovers are still built in Solihull near Birmingham in the UK.

The new Jaguar XJ and XF were released under tata ownership. I guess that kinda sums up that ownership origin has no influence on the business strategy atleast in terms of this partnership

My thinking is Tata will hold onto the brands for a while, transfer as much technology as they can to their own brands and sell them off when its time. Tata has always been about making their own vehicles rather than owning other brands (though they do own a few).

Hi. first I would say that your dream is an excellent choice. Land rovers are made in England. The fact about ownership change is true......recently it has acquired by TATA motors....but don't worry....It doesn't effect on the quality of the product......Because what has changed is only the Management and ownership.......Not the technologies and their production lines....Changing ownership is something which is usual in the business world.....

Never go and buy a land rover on your own......it is a different art of buying a Land Rover......As an example, even the length of the differential you have to measure before you buy a LR.......If you are planning to buy a Brand new one from the company then it doesn't matter....but if you are planning to buy a used one in SL, then never go alone......

I will give you a place where you can get all the info regarding this subject......There is a famous LR work shop in Kotiyagoda along with a sale......its on Buthgamuwa road at Walikada......you can buy a one from their sale if you are interested......or take their assistant to buy one......after you buy a one....this the place where you can get the genuine service done......

Else contact Mr. Osanda who is a famous off road driver in SL......

All the cost and running condition info you can get frm there.....

But defenfer is not an easy and confertable vehicle to drive in SL roads........
