Well in the UK, while warranty direct lists the prius as one of the most reliable cars it is also listed as one of the most expensive cars to repair when it breaks down. I wonder if this has anything to do with it. Perhaps they are waiting for them to become more mainstream in the country.

But insurance companies don't cover mechanical repairs anyways. So i guess the only risk will be at a time of a head on collision, and the need for an engine repair comes about. I hope the owners are not expecting the battery to be insured

could it also be that the companies not wanting to except damage by water? Since colombo is prone to water clogged streets this could be a concern

They are very expensive to repair,

The parts must also be very expensive while if something happens to the electronics in accidents even more costs

That's why the company's don't like to insure them.

So if u'r buying those for cheaper prices u'll have to take the risk,

yet they should offer 3rd party

otherwise the hybrids will not be able to be put on the roads

Secondly on your question when you mention hybrids do you mean the Prius or other hybrids ?

Cause the prius clearly had a brake problem which might be the reason why insurance companies are reluctant to make a deal.

This doesn't make sense and should be verified for accuracy. Most likely its not correct.

The govt has reduced taxes and duties on hybrids and electric cars specifically to encourage people to purchase them over regular cars. Doesn't make sense for the insurance companies to not insure them. And what about the hybrids that are already on the road in SL?

Exactly! This post is very misleading! All major insurance companies do insure Hybrid vehicles.

Exactly! This post is very misleading! All major insurance companies do insure Hybrid vehicles.
