Hi,

Does this mean I need to change the alternator belt?

AC is not on when this happens.

Tks.

what's the make/model? If it's got old fashioned alternator adjuster to tighten/loosen the belt tension, then even you yourself can adjust to the right belt tension.

Press the belt between two pulleys and if it offsets more than 0.5 cm, can consider as loosen belt, adjust the alternator position (in most vehicles) and get the belt tighten, make sure you won't over tight as it'll kill the pulley bearings over a period of time.

If not and you're sure it's tight and it's a v grove belt, then check whether the belt had sunk into the v grove of the pulley, you will have to replace the belt.

if this is modern set up with spring loaded auto tensioner, you will have to change this belt tensioner.
