Which Monkey ish dish...??! :D Be mindful my friend.. you wouldn't want a 3 Ton truck up your boot when in traffic. These Monkeys have quite the road rage...

I am referring to monkeys in Y60s, not 'gorillas'... :)

:D ok...well the 156 Lusso is more suitable for SL coz it has more ground clearance whereas the 156 Gran Turismo has less ground clearance..and hence not suitable for SL :)

Give SL roads a few more years machang, then all your 'ground clearance' issues will be sorted out. No need to worry about which 156 model to buy for you... :)

But to be very frank, I have never had any issue with the ground clearance. NAd I have driven through some bad roads. I guess to each his own.

Mate, you really need to watch more Top gear :)

Secondly which is superior depends on your perspective. Plus a lot of Alfas are front wheel drive. That is not everybody's cup of tea when it comes to performance. Beyond a certain amount of power this results in very noticeable torque steer.

There is a reason why second hand Alfas are really cheap in the UK. Do you know why ;) ?

1+...didn't want to get into that for obvious reasons :P

Well I really did not know that such a huge responsibility was on me when I am to make a comment on this forum. I am really sorry for my irresponsible behavior and i beg my audience to forgive me for my jumbled up thoughts. I thank you Preveen for your valuable input and will keep your good advice in mind when posting my comments in future. :)

BTW, can you let us know what you drive on a daily basis?

@The Don...no i dont know...please enlighten me...was hoping to get one down from there when i had enough money saved..and i know top gear loves talking shit about it...but if you just drive one...u'll fall in love with it...hence my bias opinion...i tried searching you tube for the video i was talking above in my earlier post...but couldnt find it sorry.

@pericles/VVTi/Ripper.....guys pls..i was at the office and was in a hurry to post it..hence the typos and the jumbled comment...but to pick on it...lol...u guys need to grow up :P (no disrespect)

I was just trying to say i love "ALFA ROMEOS" and IMHO they are the best and the most stylish cars ever built...they drive better than beamers and mercs and are really fun to drive...BUT "ALFA ROMEO" is notorious for late deliveries and crappy services...anyway again sorry about the typos

1. The Alfa dealership in the UK has a very bad reputation. Most Alfas in the UK are hence maintained by specialists. Before the 156 the previous Alfa models also have a bad reputation for breaking down. The 156 was a fairly reliable car, but needed a cam belt change ever 45,000 miles or so and the cam variator used to fail. A lot of broken down cars as a result and made it quite expensive to maintain (as you know labour in the UK is very expensive). Thus the cheap second hand prices for the 156 and previous models. The 166 does not have much of a second hand market because not many people know about the car. Supposedly quite good but do not know about reliability. But models afterwards like the 159 have a much better reputation and their values seem to be holding though the depreciation is still more than a similar 3 series.

2. If you drove a BMW, you will fall in love with it too. It gives you a different experience, strong, sturdy, reliable, well engineered and very good driving dynamics with the added benefit of being a rear wheel drive car. I don't think it is a fair statement to say that Alfa is superior to BMW or Mercedes. Choice of car is a very personal matter. Lets not try to question other people's choices. If you think a car is superior, just buy one and enjoy it :) You will find most of us are fans of the Alfa brand.

3. You have definitely missed the top gear episode that people are talking about.

Ok, call me biased. I have an Alfa 164 and I wanted to think my Alfa is reliable against all odds. Bought it in bits and pieces with almost all major systems failing or falling apart. Spent a good 2 months and this side of Rs. 300,000 putting all the bits and pieces back together. Even then the skeptics laughed and doubted almost all things about her. But then last Thursday all the way to this Tuesday I went about proving to myself above all else that the Alfa is as good as your random Japanese car that people in SL genuflect on a daily basis and sell their souls and their mothers to acquire.

Total distance covered 1650Kms.

Total gas pumped, almost 200Ltrs.

Breakdowns 0

Doubts about performance 0

An Alfa 3.0 V6 engine at full throttle, it vibrates your whole body at a godforsaken frequency that causes your face to crack open with an ear to ear smile.

I had the smile when the cops flagged me over, which ticked them off more... :)

That my dear friends, is a feeling you will never get in your average Toyota/Honda/Nissan with PushStart and Scoop lights and HID Xenons... ;)

So, what I am saying is that get out of the box, do something different. Don't follow the herd. Live a little.

Buy an Alfa, love it to bits, keep the faith, put it back together like its your own broken heart and she will not let you down.
