Tinted Glass

Recommended Posts

Hi,

Last saturday I was stopped by police office near colombo kochchikade and he was trying to charge me for the tinted glasses in front. I told him that I did according to the police regulation but the guy said from 1st of april front glasses cant be even light tint and they should be fully clear.

Did anyone heard about this new rule. please share your experience

i think the rule that fornt glass shouldnt be tinted had been around for quite long time...and i think this was discussed before :)

no, it was allowed upto a certain percentage of visible light transmission, but there wasn't clarity on how the cops were supposed to measure if a tint fell within the limits or not

and of course it's allowed if you are a V*P, a V*P escort, or at least have a car that looks like it might belong to a V*P :P

Saw plenty of "mudalali" vehicles with tinted front windows. Nobody's stopping em. Latest trend is to buy those National Logo's you get at bookshops and stick it on the windscreen. There's even one which says "V*P." Somehow, I can't believe those are government issued so I'll have to assume a bunch of morons are trying to show off.

front glasses cant be tinted at all according to the newest laws.

of course there are loads of lucky chaps running around with tints on but cops can pull you over for having tints in front.

I'd say fully tint the back shutters, and use one of those stick on visor things on the sides...that's the loop hole in the present law....visors are not banned...as yet

So there was a recent change?

well, as the practice seems to be "come and show us the car without the tint to get your license back", I guess it would just be a case of unsticking it and putting it back up later :P

(reminds me of motorcycle helmet rentals in vietnam!)

Well this is a little confusing

I thought we were allowed 30% from last years May but this one says "The police have begun tracking down vehicles that have any kind of tinted glass in the front windows"

http://www.dailymirror.lk/index.php/news/3639-front-window-tints-banned-.html

While this one doesnt mention anything about the limit http://lankagazette.com/topstories/tint-allowed-only-on-mod-permission/

Mate, this is Sri Lanka..laws are there..but only applicable to the ordinary people..I was caught near Ibbanwela Junction one day ..and I escaped from them telling a politician name as my relative..but there is no relative of me in politics..VIPs, rich guys who can do anything with their money ...and political henchmen will do what ever the percentage of tint they want..but for us it's different law..I think this windscreen law has been there for some time..anyway it's the mentality of the cop who's on duty..some people don't seem to be too much bother about the tinted vehicle ,and some will ...
