Anyone Have An X5

Hi

How is it to maintain in Sri Lanka, can the local dealers get spare parts and otherwise is it an OK car to have there. I am thinking about buying one in the UK and there is a chance we would relocate to Sri Lanka later and hence would want to ship it over.

Thnaks

Hi Rob

The agents and a few BMW specialists should be able to service and do the running maintenance on the X5. However, there are only a few running on our roads with most being government/ministry vehicles. Due to its rarity parts would be very expensive and would be best maintained at the agents. I have seen a specialist maintain two/three privately owned X5s, common and shared parts would not have a problem, but getting down some of the specific parts may take some time and costs.

Cheers

R

You dont have to look at the middle east. There are quite a few people who could get down parts cheap from the UK and Singapore at very competitive rates. Even better, you can source it directly via ebay and many other sites based in these countries offering international postage.

Yes I agree that you can directly bring down the parts from UK or Singapore but, the cost of BMs and its parts in UK or Sin are very expensive compare to ME! i.e 2007 X5 in UK will cost nearly 35k (6.3mil) while same car available for Dhs.150k ( 4.5mil) and you would find genuine parts for very competitive prices and shipping cost is much lesser compare to UK. Recon parts would get almost for nothing from scrap yards as their are many BMs thrown away after minor accidents.
