You will have to consult an Automatic gearbox specialist. It could be due to the valve operating the reverse gear is malfunctionning.

To eliminate another doubt I have, check whether the vehicle will freely move backwards in N, say in a downhill or when you push it. I've come across a scenario where a broken brake liner causing unusual resistance in the drum when the wheel spinning backwards.

the vibration problem could be due to a bad air filer! does this happen when the vehicle is in "D" also?

How would an air filter affect a car that only vibrates when its in R ?

The guy did specifically say "it all happened when try to reverse"

Probably something wrong with the Gear box revolution sensors- there are two of them and these can be replaced easily at the agents. If you're lucky it will be just the reverse sensor that needs to be changed. Also a change in gear box oil will not hurt. IMHO

yeah its true thats why I asked him whether the same thing happens in "D" coz in ma previous vehicle i had a similar problem...when i slowed down ( almost came to a halt) the vehicle used to vibrate and sometimes the engine turns off...then one of my cousin advised me to clean the air filter...i did it and the problem was solved...i guess it was due to the dirty air filter which wasn't letting enough air into the engine when the vehicle slowed down! :)
