Well....afaik...assuming the figures you mention are for city driving with ac on...those numbers aren't that bad.

Yeah machang. A friend uses one. That thing does about the same within city and do about 11 on cruising, outstation.

Yeah, its in city..but lot of them are telling its about 11 to 12 in city and 12 to 14 in out...was really worried about the fuel..thing..solunas are used by cab services for their low fuel consumption i guess..thats why im asking that..any way thanx 4 da info machan

They lied

So that means any car with a 1500cc,does 7-8 in city.is it?or any car that can named as a good fuel consumption in city?

If they have automatic gearboxes, that's about the realistic figure you can expect. Maybe newer tech engines like those on Axios can manage about 9 or so (City traffic conditions with AC on).

If you measure fuel economy at colombo traffic that figure is ok. Have you checked it in long Trip. If it does 15kmpl thats ok. Also can you tell me how do u calculate it?

I really doubt you can get 15kmpl even outstation unless of course it's all downhill or you have some sails hooked onto the car :P

i usually fill the tank with 10 liters, and zero the meter..when i goes around 70 or 80 km`s,the meter comes to the stage that i have to filled again 10 liters...i filled 20 lliters and went to negombo and came back it was 150kms`s...20 kiters were gone..

and another thing i usually drive in city at a speed of 40 or 45...will that effects the fuell thing?im a soft footer..

filling the tank halfway is not the best method to calculate fuel efficiency. Fill her up a full tank, zero the trip meter and run around. Make sure you don't keep the car still with A/C on (say waiting in a car park with A/C on) as it'll impact the MPG/KMPL figure. In the evening or after a day fill it up again a tank full to see how many liters it requires. Divide the figure in trip meter by that number of liters and you'll get how much it ran using one liter. BTW, how do you feel the gear change? does it only changes after engine revs up to a considerable level or it's a smooth shift ? how's the cooling of the A/C system? does it cools fast and cuts off the compressor or compressor engages full time? These are minor things which might affect the fuel consumption considerably.

well in the gear shift..i can feel when it shits to another gear..it is smooth..and regarding the a/c cooling is good,,it cools fast and cuts off the compressor..and the other thing is when i start the car in the morning the fuel meter decreases from the point it was..when in traveling it decreases more..then again increased a bit...

According to the given info i feel that figure is not acceptable since it gives by not a driving at colombo city limit. Bt i still doubt that ur fuel calculation for 150km .

I suggest to do check the fuel consumption in following manner when u r going for long trip ( at least 200km in both way) to minimized the error.

1. Before start the journey fill the tank full and zero the trip meter. Most of the occasion filling stations guys fill the tank by extra liters after auto stop their meter. However you should calculate how much more they have filled. It vary to 0 to 5/6 liters. ( you can calculate it by seeing the liters of auto stop level and final level - take the difference). Let assume that he has filled 3 more liters extra.

2. After run a long trip fill the tank full and see the number of liters it takes to auto stop the meter of the filling station. Let assume that its 17 liters and now the meter reading is 300km.

3. Calculate the fuel consumption = Meter reading of Trip Meter / (Extra liters in previous filling + Current Liters at auto stop level)

= 300 / (3+17)

= 15 kmpl

If your car does more than 14 kmpl at outstation i guess its ok. If its less than that checked it again for engine tuned up.

Also note that it is difficult to guess the minimum rating of kmpl value of colombo city limit since it can vary from 6 to 11. Even if it does 6 kmpl we cant say the vehicle doesnt do the fuel well because of the kmpl value depends highly based on the nature of the traffic.

Whats the mileage on the car? How are the tyres? Shocks? Do you carry a lot of weight around? Aging cars tend to be less fuel efficient.

See, contrary to popular belief day to day city running will not get you more than what you are getting, If anyone says otherwise, they are lying to sell the car to a gullible buyer. One of my aunts had a SOluna and she used to drive everyday Colombo- Katu- Colombo. Best she got was 9kmpls combined. She is a light footed driver who has 20+ years experience behind the wheels. That car was and is in tip top condition. The best she has got was 14kmpls on a trip to Middeniya with 3 people on board, early morning departure and late night arrival. Still has it.

So if you are getting 7-8, its not a problem. Make sure the tires are properly inflated and just relax and drive.

Mileage is 100,120km`s..tyres were changed 8 months ago,14" alloys tube less,,only 2,3 people on board, front tyres i fill them 30 back its 28
