Nissan Skyline V36 Or Toyota Mark X?

Hi Guys,

Can you support me to decide whether to buy a Nissan Skyline V36 (2007-08) or Toyota Mark X (2007 - 08)? What are the pros and cons of both?

both cars are very similar. if you compare the 2.5 litre versions, both put out around 215bhp+ rear wheel drive. similar cabin space and levels of comfort.

imo, the mark x looks better than the v36. interior of the v36 is better than the mark x. handling wise, get the mark x Sports pack which comes with 18' rims, sports suspension, VSC and traction control. the ride will be harder, but handling significantly better. in standard trim, the mark x does not handle well especially if you are used to a continental ride. like most rear wheel drive cars it has a fishtail problem unless you fix it with a big rear under brace, anti-roll bar and a better suspension. the eps in the mark x is also a bit light though its precise. but like lots of the new toyotas, the EPS system is prone to premature failure. the v36 steering feels better weighted.

stock brakes on mark x is a bit spongy, and the v36 feels more reassuring. power plant wise, the VQ on the skyline also has a better record than the mark x. the 4gr-FSE on the mark x is the same unit on the lexus IS250. though its very smooth and powerful, lots of owners seem to have experienced a cam gear defect. there was a tsb on this.

also you should get better support from the nissan agents. parts for the mark x are harder to come by. toyota lanka does not stock parts yet and A*W has a better reputation as agents.

there's not a lot between them to be honest. both are solid executive sports sedans, rather than out and out sports cars. best to test drive both and see. i'm sure you can find a couple of examples at car sales joints to have a spin in.
