Toyota Ce106 - Help With Starting Problem

Hi,

I have a Toyota CE106 diesel car, and when i try starting the car after leaving it parked for more than a day, it takes a long time to start. i often have to keep cranking the engine for about 6-7 seconds at a time and it starts only on the 3rd or 4th attempt.

once the car starts for the first time, subsequent starting is not a problem at all. it starts instantly. the injector nozzles have a slight leak and i was wandering if this could be the reason for the delay to start.

would appreciate any help on diagnosing the problem and sharing experiences

Those leaks on the nozzels could be a problem.. Why not get that fixed first and see?

Are all the nozzles leaking like this?

A shot in the dark.. before starting after a day pump the hand pump on top of the diesel filter and see if the pump is easy to pump.. if so pump it a few times till it gets tight. then give a try to start and see.. Then it "could" point to the diesel leak you have.. (If the pump is pumpable for several pushes that could mean diesel flow is broken at some points, where exactly I am not sure and whether it applies to this particular problem)

The injector nozzle leak should also effect this ,maybe you should get you injection pump re calibrated,injection timing could have changed after sometime i assume, not sure about it though .

yah i guess it makes sense to fix the Nozzles first and then see if the problem persists. I delayed fixing the nozzles because the leak was very minor.

i actually tried using the manual diesel pump a couple of times and there was no effect (still took a long time to start) at times the car starts instantly in the morning and there are other times when it takes a long time, this inconsistency is what is worrying me

I think you better attend to this problem quickly, otherwise you could also ruin your starter motor.. not to mention the wear on your engine during these long cranks to start the motor..

By the way did you pump until it was hard and difficult to pump?

I think it's better to start your diagnosis from the pre heating system before moving into fuel feed circuit.

try to pump your fuel filter manually by pressing(head) it few times before starting in the morning.... if this works fine that means your fuel filter is draining back to the tank.
