Alto Noise

Mikee

Recommended Posts

I purchased a brand new alto from a*w six months back. After about one month careful use it gives lot of noise from rear when it is driven in a slightly bumpy road. It seems that noise coming under the body or rear suspension system. I have taken the car to A*W workshop at borella and consulted their team. They inspected every part of vehicle and said no abnormalities can be noticed. But still that noise is there. Is this normal for Indian alto? (obviously because of bad finish?) Guys who use Indian alto, pls share your experience about this noisy rides

well believe it or not...agents doesn't necessarily have the best mechanics with them

i would take it to a reputed garage and get it checked out.

there are enough stories about how agents couldn't spot issues while some other chap in a little garage have found the cause and sorted things out.

especially if there's "a lot of noise" as you say, there has to be something wrong.

quite possibly rear suspension related but i'm clueless about how an alto is put together so have no idea what it can be.

bushes, shocks maybe?

Is it a squeeky noise ? and does it go off after some ?, I have this same problem. I have reason to believe that this could be the actual Shock Absorbers themselves. These cars have been sitting in the rain and sun for quite some time and the condition of place where they are housed at, I would get it checked from somewhere else even though it would cost a few hundred bucks, and then again you do not get the warranty for shocks, Mine has just done about 500km.

About A*W, i really wouldn't take their word as they will do anything to bypass the so called "Free" customers. The exact day i bought the car there was a huge noise from the front left wheel, they asked me to take it to the workshop after hours of inspection apparently there was nothing wrong and the noise was cause it was new :-)

but I just happen to take it to my local mechanic and found out that a Nut was missing on the bracket holding the AC condenser.

The same experience I had with them with my WagonR, a few days after a replacement of the rack-ends, there was a wobble on one of the front wheels , And their first diagnose was that the razors need to be replaced, !!!!! which would cost another 4k plus alignment. But to see the Axle Nut wasn't tightened properly.

This is just my experience, Having no option but to go for an indian car, i wouldnt count on them for their diagnosis.

Did they take the car for a test drive?.Might probably be an issue with the bushes. The people at Kitulwatte workshop are lazy fellows (talking with experience). They always try to get away by telling something or else suggesting a replacement.Take your car to the Rajagiriya workshop. They are better than the guys at Kitulwatte. Meet Mr.Menaka (Assistant engineer) and complain about the issue. As the car is under warranty agents should replace the necessary parts free of charge.

Thanks for replies guys, This noise is like "daka daka" (like body is not tightly fixed to chassie)while riding on slightly bumpy roads. Actually within 1st month i had to replace right front shock absorber due to a noise. later both shock mounts were replaced. This time i told A*w fellows about previous shock absorber problems. They denied this noise is due to shock absorber problems. But as you guys say i cant trust them. Last time i got the car checked from a local dealer garage. Previously i used Nissan FB13, Truly speaking i didn't have this much problems with it even though its 15 years old than this so called BRAND NEW car. Im really disappointed.

It seems you have messed up some little things and blame a good car.Just find out the real problem first. You can go Alawatta associates at Battaramulla and get things sorted out.And do the repairs at there or at the agents.

what... why is it his fault.. as we always dictated in this forum.. the build quality on these are sub par... its a fact.. and things like above only proves it without a doubt.. go sell ur indian crap somewhere else..

and please we all know how good alawatta is... please dont edose crappy places the guy already has enough trouble... seroulsy whats wrong with u..

OP: i think if its daka daka then its metal to metal contact.. check the suspenssion bushes.. and the usual culprits. i dont think its anything major like a suspension gone bad since its brand new.. but then again its indian and u never know.

dilku, Do you ever expect to go to a garage several times and spend your valuable time (also replacing shock absorbers and mounts etc) during first few months of use of a brand new car? Do you think replacing a shock absorber is a little thing? i should say that i had to replace the shock at that time was due to a seperate problem (because of a play of shock)and this is a new noise. I'm from Galle, there is no authorized re pare place at galle (but in Matara). So last time i had to go to Matara and they identified the prob. But the problem with them is that they can't replace parts at the same time in a car with in warranty priod. Instead they send a request to A*w and get spare parts later. Last time there was a much delay due to this bl--dy process. Thats why this time i directly went all the way to A*W in borella to get every thing fixed at once. but hopeless. (And other fact is that you cant go to a garage you want during the warranty period)

By the way guys today i again went to Matara. They identified that the other shock absorber is also gone and need replacement (as Ripper guessed). So i'm awaiting another replacement. I used this car very care fully;never overloaded; most of the time only two are in the car. All these are production faults due to cheap parts. sucks

dilku, my fault is buying a brand new Indian car thinking that it will be trouble free at least during 1st one year.

This is an exceptional case . And thousands of other users have no such complains within few months..And ,ofcourse I feel sorry for him. These cars are being marketed for the low income group. Most people can't buy Japs hence Indian cars become the best alternative for years.

so tell me this. What is the average wage of a janitor at the central bank? just curious to know because I would assume that at the usual wage janitors make in Sri Lanka, you would not be able to afford to buy of maintain even a maruti. Hence the reason for me to question why you are on this website.

Do you mean pitstop? although they are owned by A*W I didn't know they did warranty repairs; and whether they are geared to analyze this kind of issue.

how do you know that? is there a forum somewhere with thousands of users waxing lyrical about their maruti?

isn't it exactly because of bad experiences like this that indian cars have a bad rep. for build quality?

sheesh, I hope the rest of central bank uses more reliable methods for information gathering.

Either you get paid by A*W to wash their cars or you are Alawatte's AssBoy... :)

Which one is it? Or are you like, Jdnet alwaays say>? CB Janitor? Who is also Alawatte's Assboy?

WTF is wrong wit you? When someone buys a brand new car, you don't expect anything to go wrong, in the first few months of ownership

I am having the same problem in my maruti 800. It's not a big daka daka sound, but small tik tik sound from the back when running on a non carpeted road. I have replaced shocks and remove, checked, tightened almost all the parts not welded. But symptom persists. Finally I made my mind as, "I have checked all the parts and they are normal, and It wont bother me during a tour".

The funniest thing is it always comes when I drive it and when my wife is driving it doesn't  . Sometimes I think it may be the sound that spare wheel is hitting with the metal of boot. But I couldn't confirm it because it comes after some distance of driving and I am not much dare to go such distance without a spare wheel.

We too had a similar issue and the foreman at the workshop said that Rear shocks has some packing and it should be replaced. :). Anyway after sometime that sound disappeared

No its not pitstop but 'Maruti workshop and body repair center' behind pitstop. They do warranty jobs.

Initially i also thought that my situation is an exceptional. But its sad to say that i met no of customers who faced various problems with these cars within few months of use during my stays at those garages and workshop. One had to replace front shock absorber of a Brand new A-Star car which was only one week old. (actually he has noticed a noise when he take the car from the shop at the very first day)Another one with alto had a inactive AC thermostat after 2 months of use. Another disappointed customer came with front noise in a one month old alto and found to have destructed some bushes at front wheels. So if i stayed some more hours there i could have found hundreds like this.

ya, its may be true that these cars are targeted for low income groups. but my point is that Maruti should not cheat people by manufacturing cars with lot of production errors. BTW i see lot of doctors use indian cars; I don't think they are in low income group :)
