Hello! im new to the forum!

im thinking of buying a Mercedes Benz W124, i know there are many versions under W124, im interested only in E200, E250, E300( all diesel)

1. whats the best out of these three?

2. the Pros and Cons?

3. price range?

thanks!! Take care!

Posted

1. The E300 for sure, in terms of performance, and may be even economy

2. It is a mercedes! (but accept a few niggles that you might have to iron out when you first buy the car)

3. Well it depends on the car, these cars were built since the mid 80's. But i'm assuming an early nintees variant to go for around 2.3.

Always try to go for a car with imported from Germany if budget permits

The 190 is physically smaller than the others, but the rest are all the same size.

I would go for a 250 or 300. these are nice chunky cars and personally I wouldnt want a 200 cos it'd be pretty underpowered.

Not too sure on what fuel consumption figures they give though.

Hello.

I myself own 2 W124's . a '90 E250 (5 Cylinder) and a '94 E200. E200 engine is not powerful enough. The car is heavy and as stable as a rock. But it is economical on diesel. I get about 9-10KM's per liter on city running on the E200 and the same for the E250. No electrical faults what so ever. I have used these cars for over 6 years now and I'm still happy to drive in them.

32- W124 E200's go for around 1.6-1.9 mil

32- W124 E250 goes for around 2.1-2.4 mil

64- and 65- W124 E200 goes for around 2.6-2.9 mil

64- and 65- W124 E250 goes for around 3-3.4 mil

64- and 65- W124 E300 (6 cylinder) goes for over 3.5 mil

Not sure about english numbered W124's as they have varying prices.

Just to clarify, do any of these variants come with a turbo powered diesel engine?

The 300 has a turbo variant but i dont recall seeing any in SL, though wiki says there are. Though there are some W126 300 turbos

how come there are english numbers for these cars?? and why does the engine size have such a big effect on the price??

Love 124 s!!!.We had one sometime back (Pre-face lift German)trouble free till she was sold and should say one of the world's most over engineered cars !

Go for it...E200 or 300 ,its the same fun! we talked about W124s before will hunt for the link.

There are few Pune Indian manufactured cars here and some dont like to buy them but a friend owns one and yet...trouble free and equal fun!

as far as i know, there are no turbo powered W124 engines in SL although the W126's have turbos. but they are all converted engines. chassis was made for petrol engines apparently.

there were cars imported after the english number system was introduced. and they were not brand new, 0 mileage.

also, higher the output of the engine, higher the price tag. there is no real difference in fuel consumption. it also depends on the number of options the car has. most E300's i know have electric seats and etc unlike my E200.

yep. thats possible. with the engine, a lot of components will have to change with it. but the number plate will probably change with it? i'm not so sure about that.

Yes thats possible. Not a complicated swap. But there was a shortage of 250 an 300 engines few months back, The Kirillawela guy does that and doing a great job.

i thought the number changes only when u switch from petrol to diesel...and what about the cost?

ya. i'm not sure about that. they even change the number if changes have been made to the chassis. E300 engine would roughly cost about Rs. 250,000. and with the E200 engine that you want to swap, overall cost could come up to about Rs. 400,000. given that there is a buyer for your E200 engine. Talk to Avin** Enterprises and see. They might be interested in buying the engine or getting down one for you.

Yes only when convert to another furl type but I heard converting to another fuel type of pre- English number vehicles is banned now.Allowed only of English numbered vehicles.Somebody please confirm this.
