Hi Guys,

I replace the distributor o ring of my Ek3 before 4-5 months and now again oil marks are visible :( . 2-3 weeks ago I noticed oily marks between engine and the distributor. Now it seems oil goes through the distributor and leaking from the packing.

I was not happy about the previous o ring change as the performance got decreased a lot and ignition sounds heard after it :action-smiley-060: . Still I have those issues too and didn’t have a free time to attend to correct them .

Any idea why it is happening again? This should not be the normal way, oil seal won’t be corrupted so quickly right?

Most of the time I drive long distances in night, so I need the car in good condition, so this time I need to show the issue to a good skilled person to correct the distributor.

Can anyone of you tell me a decent place to get the job done? And your suggestions :angry-smiley-007: are also welcome about the re-happening of the same issue in a few months.

Many Thanks,

machang... i would guess that either the oil seal that was replaced isn't the correct one or there's something screwing up with the O ring.

maybe the motor housing or the alternator shaft isn't as smooth as it should be...

If oil is getting to meddle up with your delco..i would attend to it asap.

VVTI and myself get our vehicles fixed at this small time garage in seeduwa.

If peri doesn't mind, and you're ok to try the bugger...i can put down the details here.

Machan, Is he good enough for this work, last time I replaced the oil seal from so called Honda expert. But I'm really unsatisfied with the work did. Machan I'm living near Battaramulla. By the way please give me the details. Thanks for the reply.

Nope not him. I have gone there only once. the first impression was not that good.

By the way Evergreen, you have told me once a person who is in somewhere Kesbewa. How about him?

And I'm also thinking this time to take to stafford. Do you know any person there to talk?

The mechanic who did the job previously must have messed up your ignition timing, and that should be the reason why your are getting the ignition noise all the time.

With the oil related stuff, they say that it is good idea to stick with the OEM parts. If oil gets into the distributor, then you would probably have to change the distributor oil seal. Replacing the oil seal is not as easy as changing the O ring since it is located deep within the distributor unit. But it is only a simple job for a good mechanic. :)

I have had the same trouble with one of my previous cars and it actually turned out to be the oil seal, not the O ring.

I know a supervisor guy who's working at Stafford, so if you are going there drop me PM. I'll send you his details.. :)

AND always stay away from the Honda repair joint in Malabe. He is not an expert at all... :violent-smiley-099:

hmmm nothing could do for this during weekend rather that showing it to a normal mechanist. He told that as actual oil leak could be the oil seal as I have changed only the o-ring previously. And he also pointed out that there could be a wear in the compartment which fix the o-ring too. He further added if that the case it should be fixed my filling it.

He told that some people are not willing to touch the oil seal part too.

Any idea about these findings?

i Guess the distributor housing could be distorted or warped to make the over ring not seat properly. As far as the oil leak goes you better check it out quickly before it causes major damage to distributor and before it toys around with our ignition .

Hi Guys,

After sometime :alc: But couldn't do the repair yet, planning to do it in this (long) weekend. I contacted Stafford and tech motors for o ring and oil seal. At Stafford O ring is 200+ and oil seal is 1250. But they said they need the removed oil seal from the car to give the new one as there are two types of oil seal. At Tech motors O ring is just 50 and Oil seal is 500. And they said that they don't need the removed oil seal.

However I'm not in position to take the removed oil seal to get the new one.

What do guys think (know) about the price different and 2 types of oil seal Stafford mentioned?

Many Thanks,

isn't there is a way to identifying correct part by giving cars chassis number to stafford and get the correct part like in t#y#ta l#nka?

The person I called told me to bring the chassis number. But once I went there that person wasn't at the counter, The person who was in the counter told that it is not even possible to identify from the chassis number.

Anyway I went to Teck motors and bought the once they have. Will see in the weekend.

Correct... I had the same issue sometimes back. And I did exactly the same (O ring replacement) It didn't help. So I took it to another guy and he identified the issue is with the oil seal. It cost me around 1500 to replace the oil seal and now there is no leak.

For the ignition sound, you might need to adjust the ignition timing by retarding the ignition. Even you can do it by yourself if you have a fair knowledge about timing adjustment (But leave it to an expert ;) ).

Cheers machan,

Mac

I got fixed up both oil seal and o ring, then adjusted the distributor, Now the car is going like a jet. :jumping-smiley-013:

Agree with you GearHead, It took only 1.5 Hours. After replacing the oil seal fixed it to engine and asked me to drive and see. I feel no need of adjustments. :D several guys tried to adjust the distributor but no one able to do like this time. :alc:

Thanks all of you guys for the help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Machan, I get it done from a small joint at Matale (But I know him well). ;)

i'm guessing that there might be an issue with the engine block where the oil seal fits into. Or it can be the delco housing too depending how things seal up in your car.

can't be the seal itself since you have replaced it twice already.

how about taking the car to the agents themselves???

I get my repairs done at a small joint in seeduwa. that guy has been great so far with my vehicles and also VVTI's...

Also recently got a small job done by bruce nigel of bruce motorsports, malabe.

he seems to be good too.

After replacing the seal twice and it not working on both times... I think now you should take it to another mechanic.
