Hey guys, This is my first post in here...

I need advice from you guys about maintaining a vehicle if it is a new(Reconditioned) or a used one. I think it will help lot of people. Assume that I do not have a single idea about maintaining a vehicle(Which mostly is true :action-smiley-060: ) what advice would you give me?

Thanks........

Well to write it is quite simple, though in real life it can be a little more complicated than that :) But I would say;

1. Locate a good mechanic that is easily accessible and reliable (this might be the difference between a pleasant or a horrible experience with your car).

2. Locate a good service station.

3. Treat your car with respect. Yes it is a machine but if you don't take care of it the consequences will come to haunt you later on.

4. Service the car regularly using quality parts using manufacturer recommendations as guidance. Remember if you do a lot of miles, things like the fuel injection system would also need to be serviced about once a year (some people call this a tune up).

5. Check your oil, coolant, battery water, brake oil levels, tyre pressure every week end or before a long journey.

6. Listen out for unusual rattles, noises, behaviour from the car and get it checked out asap.

7. Always use good quality OEM or Genuine spares.

Having said all of the above, you don't need to be too worried. Modern cars are very reliable, but everything needs a bit of TLC sometime :)

Well thanks Big D... Appreciate it. But I'm hoping to buy a classic like a Capri or Cortina. Thanks again...

Well the good news is those cars are quite simple compared to modern cars so its easier to find a good mechanic. But I would also find a good body work guy because rust is a big problem. Also expect problems with the electrical system and brakes. If you buy a car, I would get a trusted mechanic to give everything a thorough look and fix any issues found at the very outset. Will save you a lot of time later on and avoid being stranded in the middle of nowhere.

Thanks man...

I'm still looking.. And that's really good to know. Cause most of my friends discourage me about this saying stuff. You know the stuff they say, Anyways, I'll let you all know about it after I buy the car.. I guess I'll gonna need loads of help from you guys....

Regards...
