Dear Friend. Thanks for your replies. But ,Then what is the "taka taka sound"?

Hi,

I don't know exactly what is the mechanism on this auto gear boxes. But I presume this.

There may be a lock or something simillar in those auto gear boxes in the P position. That's why we don't need to pull the hand break while the vehicle is in P position. So I think when you shift on to P while the vehicle is moving, it(the gear box) has overdriven that lock or something due to the velocity of the vehicle. That might given you the "taka taka" sound.

This is what I assume since I don't have an exact idea. May be the experts could help you on this further. Anyway, I suggest you to go to a recognized mechanic & check the GB coz, preventive is always better than corrective. :)

cos my 3 year old kid pressed it while at 40km/h but nothing happened!

With the new traffic laws that say kids not allowed in the front seat, this should cease to be an issue. If enforced.

OK, here's an idea.....pop over to:

and have a peek at the exploded diagram of the Jazz/Fit CVT box (the diagram will zoom for you.) You can work out what happens when the shift lever moves to Park on this box, it allows that whacking great park pawl to engage with one of the indents on the Secondary/Park Gear.

Now I suspect that the good news is....and I ain't under any circumstances going to test this for you...that because Park Position on the Gear Console is wired through the car's CPU and Shift/Gear Change interlock circuitry (and not direct to the car's Powertrain Control Module - and because the PCM will have data on things like the throttle position and CVT speeds - Park will not be allowed to engage while the vehicle is moving at any real speed.

It's the PCM that actually controls the shift solenoids and not the cabin gear lever. So, you probably got away with that nasty momemnt! :D

This is a actual photo of the parking mechanism of a A/T. "A" is the notch that holds the drive shaft gear that is similar to gear wheel "B". Now i think you can understand how the "tak tak" sound came.

This is not from a Honda CVT. This is a toyota. But the principle is same for parking mechanism.

but if honda cvt is PCM controlled, then this shouldn't have engaged and given tak tak sound at all??

Normally if you put the "parking gear" there is a resistance that car won't move here and there like in the "Neutral" position..most probably the sound might be that resistance..since you have changed immediately to "Drive" position I don't think there will be a big issue..I used to do the same thing every now and then, when i was using axio..cause i used to ride my bro, BMW and it's a manual transmission..so automatically without thinking i did the same thing several times..don't worry there won't be much of a problem..

Hi friend,

At that time did you get the sound like "taka taka"....

Of course, and even into L position from 2 also it doesn't allow without pressing the button. Usually we used to move the lever while pressing this button. So presume this person also have done the same which will allow him to do so...

yes ..I have pressed the button at that time

That kid is presently being given training on how to ride in the back seat while not touching the seat belt release button!

actually i didn't hear a sound like that..but I don't think something seriously happen to your gearbox..because you were able to correct it ASAP. But If you have any kind of a doubt.better to have a checkup done from a professional place.

Yes there can't be that sound in this model if you are moving. But there is a minimum speed that it override the system. Just like in ABS.. ABS function will not operate at slower speeds ( It varies between 5km/h to 10km/h)

Machan,Is that mean my "speed" is not harmful to gear box at that time?.....

can the car now be parked on an incline without the parking brake?

No it is harmful. But in a manual box, if parking brakes are not working you can park the vehicle in a gear. This has been considered as a failsafe feature in automobile field. Ina auto box you have to carry a brick or a log with the car unless you had the parking position. It is there to stop the vehicle from moving. So it do that at a preprogrammed speed. At 70km/h you can't stop the vehicle by the parking gear. So it is not there..

At that time,my speed is nearly 20km/h.just assume...

Yes....

Then you haven't broken anything inside dangerously. But it is better to change your CVT oil. It may be not necessary. But we can't say Surely.
