Please can u all tell me about the peugeot 307 car such as the performance, Availability of parts, fuel consumption, durability of parts. As well as the demand for the peugeot 307 and market price of it for a 2003 0r 2004 model. :D

I cam across a well looked after 2003 307 and 100000k on the clock. Car sounds and drives very well. Any advice about the parts availability and maintenance highly appreciated.

previous discussion (problems to look out for) on 307 here.

re. part availability, has been discussed quite a bit in the context of 406, e.g. here. and if you buy the car, this will be helpful.

certainly not a problem to find parts/mechanics if you're close to Colombo; also new part prices are not that bad compared to genuine parts for jap cars, but you will find it much harder to source used parts/body parts unless you can get them from UK.

don't know about market price, fuel consumption or performance...

thanx fr ur reply,, but my mind says go for that car,, but most of the people say that 307 is nt a good car nd it has its' own failures,, nd maintenance cost is very high too.

if you like, I can share how much various parts cost for my citroen (prices will be similar or cheaper for 307), some were sourced locally and some hand carried from UK (if cheaper there or not available locally). as for labor costs, as with most brands, agents are expensive (and in this case, reputed for bad service) and outside specialists are cheaper.

you can then try to see how much those parts will cost for whatever jap car you could go for instead. you should of course only compare original or quality aftermarket products - if you would use parts of dubious quality and origin on a pug you'll be asking for trouble.

of course, where a used part would suffice, i've so far been able to source used from UK (AC compressor, bonnet struts, door locks and handles, rear view mirror, etc.) so you may want to factor prices of new parts unless you also have this luxury.

I don't think anything wears out faster in a 307 than in a jap car (except for things known as problems in the model; and aesthetics like roof liners), but of course with all the gizmos there are more things that can go wrong - e.g. my selfdimming mirror's fluid leaked out and I had to replace it, wouldn't have happened with a regular mirror!

ya,, nw i see y pugs are not good in their second hand market,, spare parts :violent-smiley-099: , of course y i deliberately jump in to a jumble, actually i hv 2 jap vehicles, march K11 nd a cr 41,, but last month my friend bought a 2001 VW beetle. i hv driven it nd i ws so Wondered with its extreme driving experience, believe me, i hv never had that type of fun with a jap car :) ,, then i try to find a beetle nd meanwhile i met this sexy,,(307),, ;) ,, but nw i feel, i dnt need to waste my money with a trouble,, thanx

a lot of times first owners for euros are company directors and such like, where they don't care too much about the huge depreciation for the first owner (company just takes it in stride and it's worth for the prestige factor). sucks for the first owner but that's why we have the opportunity to buy so much car (in terms of features and experience) for so little money...

spares are not impossible to come by, just that used parts can be tricky (since there are much fewer cars being scrapped); the fact that I get stuff from UK makes it cheaper for me, but it still would not be unbearable if you had to buy locally.

e.g. harshan had a 406 (d8), sold it and got a d9... and I think he gets most of his stuff locally.

i think the main reasons why people shy away (and therefore cause price to be lower) is

1. afraid of the kmpl god - will vary from car to car, but unlikely to get toyota econobox figures; but hey, if you want to live in a nice house, it will cost more than living in a cheapo house. dressing in good clothes will cost more than shabby ones.

2. afraid of reliability - yes, there are more electronics that can go wrong; yes, sometimes the fuel in sri lanka causes problems; but it's not as if a pug radiator is going to be of poorer standard than a toyota radiator?

3. afraid of spare parts costs/availability - true if you would prefer to use dubious quality aftermarket parts; true if you live away from colombo; true if you would only use the car for a short period (where the cost of using genuine parts can be hard to recover from the buyer); true if you have to rely on taking the sample from shop to shop to find a part rather than calling up and quoting the part number.

4. afraid of finding mechanics - maybe true for some brands, but doesn't appear to be an issue for pug, vw, bmw (from what i've gleaned from other users on forums); can be tricky if you are away from colombo though

ultimately depends on what experience you want for your money:

if a car is just a means of getting from A to B quickly and cheap, then get a econobox

if you appreciate the experience, e.g. if you might go for a ride just for the ride (and not because you need to get somewhere), euro's are hard to beat for value for money.

(mind you, there are "high end" jap cars too, but they tend to be priced that way too!)

I usually quite like peugeot's but I would not recommend the 307. Mechanically the car is quite good. Electronically it had a lot of little niggles such as the Airbag sensors etc. Most examples developed these issues quite early on and because of the poor power to weight ratio of some models many were not fuel efficient (the 406 did a lot better). The ride is comfortable but I found the driving position a little odd. Overall it is an European economobx kitted out with a lot of gadgets that did not excite too many people, developed a reputation for build quality issues and not something I will consider to be an Euro I'd like to own.

ya,, actually i would like to buy that car,, but my problem is about spare parts,, i heard that there are some places existing at panchikawatta or somewhere and i live in welisara. And the vehicle owner said that he has changed the timing belt nd normally spent about Rs.8000 per full service nd the mileage gap is about 20000km for next service turn.. That sounds good but i had some bad experience wit my little k11 ,, spent two whole days for find a clutch plate, pressure plate and ball joints and CV joints,, :action-smiley-060: ,, according to that what about a pug,, maybe i hv to suicide.. unfortunately im nt much familiar with ebay activities,, but if could find a good dealer with regarding Peugeots,, deffa wont think twice. :alc:

Pardon me for being blunt. But your attitude towards the vehicle is a receipe for disaster. For example, just because the service interval is 20,000 km, doesnt necessarily mean you should wait for that long. Assuming you run mostly in city traffic or even not, more frequent oil changes are recommended. Also, trust me, finding for the right part when needed is also part of the experience of owning a euro. I for one, like to do some research and obtain the right part. But it may not always be the case.

Dealers will anyways have their margins included in the parts. So its always better to establish your own sources where possible. Some euro parts work out to be cheaper than the equivalent original jap parts.

But i doubt a euro would fit your suicidal nature when it comes to vehicle maintanance

well, if it cost 8000 for the service that's probably mineral oil (would cost about that much just for the oil on fully synthetic)

in the UK you could do 20,000km with fully synth, but in Sri Lanka, max 10,000km - reduce to max. 5000km if using mineral oil. so if this guy has been spending 8,000 every 20,000 km then you should probably stay away from this specimen :D

I dont mean to be harsh but if you're too worried about maintaining a jap and having plans to run the car 20k between intervals and plans to commit suicide over scaresity of spare parts, please stay away from this euro, we would be glad that another 307 saved!

I have been an owner of a 2007 facelift car for 5 months. its a 1.4L with a stick. Amazing driving pleasure, but don't expect a comfort as 406 or larger cousins. Great handling, mind you it is a very heavy piece of metal.

Consumption is way more than expected. I drive to Puttalam and it does around 15 km/l. In city it easily does 10. May be i am a careful driver, dont fag much!

Kinda having trouble finding parts ( timing belt etc..) No real part supplier. Agents are too expensive.

Heard Pre-face lift cars doesn't come with VVTi but mine. Beautiful interior and even the basic car comes with a good trim.

Have a go if you get one. Avoid tiptronics mind you, they are a mess..
