You know, my dad's old golf was 31 Sri 5311. Have no idea where that car is anymore though.

bummer!! that's like a sister of this ;) This was originally brought to EDB and not gone to many hands (i'm the 3rd) as per the CR at least :D

Yep indeed. My dad got his from the government stores way back then. So probably one big batch of gov acquisitions. He sold it around '91-'92 after the head went bust. The guy who bought it apparently had a GTi engine that someone sent him from germany and was looking for a car to put it in. Wonder where that ended up...

The GTi is petrol.

edit: Just checked wiki to confirm the diesels came in 1.5 and 1.6 engines

No wonder why you don't see that number any more as if he had done a diesel to petrol conversion, it would've got a running petrol number at that time.

I'm seeing black colour MK1 or MK2 daily running in Kandy - Matale road towards the matale. It got the two light just like the Harshan's one. And with very nice cosmetic condtion.

Nice eye catcher. Does anyone knows the owner and little bit about the car. :rolleyes:

Till the OP comes up with new GOLF pics, let me post some pics of my OLD GOLF MK1 series II. Needless to say that lot of value addition had gone in since I got my hands on her ;)

it's got spotless interior with all original upholstry, seat covers etc. Have to tide up the rear door upholstry.

Sorted out lot of electrical issues starting from glow plugs, turn signals, head lights! and the fog lights, reverse lights, horn and dash board indicators and dash lights (there were couple of days I used the phone light to keep an eye on the gauges ;) )

Need to work next on the rear wipers and the washer

Who says one needs HID lights to make bus drivers to dip their lights? ;) installed one relay each for dim, high beams and fog lamps in the shell. with that, I'm all equipped to make those ignorant fools to dip their high beams. (proven :D). Elder one is looking into the "kabal white car" in his terms lol :D , he's in love with the Executive and hates travelling in this.

Hi harshana,

My father had a silver one in 1991 it was 31 Sri 9936 With VW alloys. But didn't have the fog lights. We bought it from Thilak he was the bass player in Rattlesake band. Had a few hiccups but was a wonderful car. Had the original tint on the shutters when the sun came out :)

how good are these as a daily runner, i mean are they practical.......would love to have one...there was AC as orignal right...???. subasinghe motors does the parts to my knowledge and is it true that they are fuel guzzlers... :D

This has an after market A/C which doesn't work. Need to re-do the tubing as one tube got damaged. Parts I didn't have any issue as there's an individual who imports parts exclusively for VW Golf. Replaced the T-belt, tappet cover packings, air clearner, all engine mounts only spending 7800/-. Cheap isn't it?

Fuel guzzlers? lolz. ran about 270 kms from a full tank and the needle hasn't moved from 3/4 mark. Thought better not to trust the needle of this old car and went to the shed again. Only could squeeze in 1220/- worth of fuel. that's above 18 kms a liter figure, mind you I was full throttle all the time.

After that fill up on last Monday morning to the date I'm running without any fill up, still above 3/4 mark. This time I'm little gentle on the peddal as I wanna outdo the prius fuel figures (21 kmpl :P)

FOR YOUR INFO.. WHITE CAR HAS BEEN SOLD.. FOR 1.6MIL :) HA HA SOMEONE WHO'S JEALOUS..

There should be this key on the left had side of your keyboard titles "Caps Lock" or "Caps". In the future, before replying on this forum, make sure the caps lock indicator in your keyboard is OFF. If not, use said key to turn it off.
