Number Plate

Friends,

In new registrations, number plates are issued by government.

I'm talking about old plates that individual people got made by them self.

Is their any regulation in colors & sizes.

I mean, front one should be "white & black"

back should be "Yellow & Black"

Is it a must? Some have black-white in back & in some car modifications, they use

various colors. Is their any law?

Is it OK to Put WP for number plate for 12-XXXX or 13 -XXXX car ?

But in book or Rev licence its not there just as 13-XXXX .

is this legal ?

Doesn't matter. U just give extra info than 13-xxxx which is regular NO.

which is the Province.

But adhere to color codes Black_white Front

Yellow-Black rear

with luminous & readable size.

Guys, there is a gazetted law concerning the license plate.

For pre English alphabet registration cars ,Rear plate - Black letters & numbers in luminous yellow background,

Front plate - White letters & numbers in black background,

No other letters of signs Eg WP,SP, D, P or the state emblem cannot be displayed .Even the "Sri" cannot be displayed as" -". All pre 89 cars (registration prior to December 88 if im not mistaken) should carry "Sri' .Violations can be penalized by spot fines.

I think for busses & lorries (pre alphabet reg), it should be red letters & numbers in white background for both plates.

That law is revised by the new Gazette notification and the red and white is null and void now.

You can't hv WP/SP/NP etc on old Number plates - I saw a cop asking a driver to remove those on a car which was stopped for some different offence near Colpetty.

As far as I remember, the "Sri" was replaced by " - " on 1st of January 1990.

Sri was not replaced. Dash was introduced instead of Sri to be used on post 99 vehicles. not on previously registered vehicles.

Then it becomes English number plates and you must wear the seat belts - LOL

One of my friends warned by a cop recently to remove the WP from the number plate, it was WP 300- one.

Yesterday I saw a Corono/Premio diesel car bearing WP65-D-XXXX. It looked like exactly a RMV number plate, included Gov symbol even. Do RMV issue such plates???

I dont think RMV issues such number pattern, is it WP65-D-XXXX? what the hell is that D means?

D means Diesel

P means Petrol

If the D or P is in red instead of black its a permit vehicle.

FYI 65- didn't come with D or P or even WP and its not legal to put anything you want in a numberplate either.
