The best chances are that you are gonna find old 90s restored to Defender spec (I am not talking about old series landys) , from the 32- era from police auctions.. basically its just a name change..

Well you are certainly looking above 1.9mil for a 90, if you are lucky to find a real defender 90 from the 1990's it'll hit somewhere close to 3.0mil due to the YOM, it would be a 65- or above as far as I know..

btw why are you emphasizing on it being "badged" a defender they are all the same except for the engine and a few bits..

Thanks TIV, actually thing is my brother told me when m asking abt LR s he said "don't buy local restored defender luking 90".but he is not expert on LR his type is mitsuibishi.. dtz y i emphasize it..

but seems ur a fan and expert on LR so its nice to meet u.

is there any considerable difference between performance or reliability between restored 90 and defender 90 except YOM.

Well when it comes to LR ownership, within a short time u'll endup being a enthusiast, fan, expert, mechanic, electrician,DIYist, "divorced" and whatever you may call it.. :D

Anyways I feel you are not on a clear impression on the whole thing..

Back in the 70's and until 86, old land rover series 3s came in, these had a leaf sprung suspension and crude dash, 2.25L diesel + most body panels were different, However they can be fiddled with to make a defender look alike

these came in no.s like 28 SRI, 31 SRI, etc some even came as 32

the LAND ROVER 90s (not Defender) started off in 84, and the 90's came out in 86, these had coil springs, 2.5l diesel (12J), 5fwd box, AWD,and

panels are the same as a defender,

In 1991, they were renamed "defender" 90 or 110, to avoid confusion with other newer land rover models

Then they kept on upgrading the trim, engines(200tdi onwards) etc till now,

So what you need to worry is not about it being a Defender 90 or a LR90

just make sure its not a crappy convert(Frankenstein) of a Series 3, with some other reg book etc..

But mind you in most of the LR90 reg books from the auctions its mentioned as either LAND ROVER simply

or LAND ROVER 90/110

But you can confirm this by the chassis no, starts with SALLD XXX XXX 123456

the LD is seen only for 90/110 and defenders..

In terms of performance I feel there is very little difference between a souped up 90 and a real defender 90, because either way they are noisy, big, and poorly trimmed, except for the ones from YOM2007 onwards..

Good advice by tiv, Let me add few to it as a LRD owner.

As mentioned LR90s are the common 90 version here and most of the LR90 Defenders are LR90-Defender converted ones. You get Series IIIs converted as Defenders and can easily spot the difference.

The 80s LR90s came with 'two and a quarter' 12J engines and Defenders diesels had 19J turbo engines. The first batch of ex- Police (STF mainly) 90s started 32-32XX and 32-43XX (correct me if im wrong). 60 plusLR90s were purchased for Police Dept and most of them are auctioned and with private owners now.

VIN is a vital concern to determine how authentic the 90 is.Check the plate inside engine bay for the SALLD and inside the wheel bay of front right chassis, visible from outside when the wheel of fully turned.

An average 12J with no mods starts just above 1.5M mark and a good goes above 2M. A LR defender 90 will always cost above 2M and touches the 3M mark.

90s are fun to drive very economical but ride is bit bumpy smile.gif! happy to help you .

Good Luck!

Yea all come as AWD by default, but there are aftermarket hubs that you can use to modify this feature, but you'll have to get off the vehicle and chuck them in when needed... but as far as I know there are no issues with the AWD system.. Improves handling and doesn't have much impact on fuel, but of course there's no 2WD defender to compare it to..
