I'm embarrassed to say that I hadnt even heard of this guy till today, despite him being suck a key person in so many brands and names we see on a dialy basis.

When you read his interview he certainly looks like someone who turns whatever he touches into gold.

I guess there's some form of underhand/politically connected business too for him to be getting such bad rep as well...

I was coming from Ratnapura to Awissawella a couple of weekends back and saw an exotic convoy whiz past.

The red Z4, a white Z4 and a white Merc E Cabrio...

I am not criticizing any one or try degrade any one there are facts you cannot hide.

I will give brief history of Rama DBK.

MR. K.P.W. Ramanayake was a broker from early 1960 during the starved period of motor vehicles ( 1962 to 1978).

He used to take Morris oxford and Austin cars from Colombo drive, sell them in Jaffna and buy two Morris minor cars from Jaffna, drive them down to Colombo sell them in Colombo.

Then when open era came in he started buying reconditioned Japanese Vehicles from the importers and sell them. There were only few importers at that time.

There by he became a motor car dealer, I would have imported few hundred Vehicles to him with his funds. For about five years.

He started his import carrier in 1985 before that he was using my Trade plate CC235 with his name as "Ramanayake Automobiles" on that plate.

"Ramanayake Automobiles". I named his Business name to register his legitimate motor vehicle dealer business.

First Japanese exporter was introduced to him by me. Later his son Jagath Ramanayake who is a giant exporter in Vehicles, was send to japan For further studies and to work under a Pakistani vehicle Exporter who was married to a Japanese. He worked for some time there,

Later after study of export Business jointly started with few Japanese exporting vehicles to Srilanka first. later to all over the world.

By my above statement I do not try to do any harm to him or his family's creditability. I and my family still have very good connections with him and his family. I am happy for his sucess, in Automobile trade today.

I think its great that your friends family has got a second Merc dealership, the guys at D*MO are having this far too easy and its time that someone got in to the competition, so its good for the industry. I cannot comment on the Mercs, but they really rip you off when it comes to service and repairs on the Jeep. Some of the charges are just absurd. They know that most customers don't care too much for the cost of the repair so they take full advantage out of it.
