? Engine Mount Problem

Simba

Recommended Posts

My Toyota Corolla AE-110 (1997)automatic has begun to emit a sound each time the front wheel goes into a rut or over a hump and when starting of i.e. accelerating from the stationary position or increasing speed. It's a kind of knocking sound that comes with CV joint issues.

Left it with a mechanic who I suspect didn't go through the car carefully and said it is probably a crack of sorts in the engine mount and nothing needs to be done now. Is this right?

Thanks

sounds to me like a suspension knock rather than engine mounts.

jack the front of the car up and check for free play in the lower arm ball joints, antiroll bar links, anti roll bar bushes and the shock top mounts.

it could still be engine mounts but they would have to be pretty broken up for the knock to be heard whilst going over rough surfaces.

can you move the engine a lot with your hands?
