Hi guys...

Im planning on going for a Civic ES5, but would like to know some info..so all the Honda gurus out there can you please help me on this...

1. Do you get manual ES5s also or are all of them auto?

2. Are all the auto ones with CVT gear boxes and is it true that cvts give trouble?

3. Whats the fuel economy like per litre?

4. Maintenance costs?

5. Are all ES5s VTEC or are there non VTEC ones as well?

i am no honda expert.. but here is what i know..

2. Are all the auto ones with CVT gear boxes and is it true that cvts give trouble? the ones which are not properly maintained will give u trouble.. always best to steer clear of these unless u know the owner and know how he has maintained his auto box

3. Whats the fuel economy like per litre? not sure.. but it should give u around 10 in the city

4. Maintenance costs? again not so sure.., i guess it depends on the oil u are going to use and the quality of the parts u are going to put in to this,

5. Are all ES5s VTEC or are there non VTEC ones as well? i am pretty sure most are 2 stage vTec's.. just a guess..

Ado I didn't see this had gone unanswered.

My 2.50 about cvt boxes:

Has to be well maintained. Check for records. Make sure owner has used Honda cvt oil. And changed every 15-18,000 km.

Best way to check it: put it in reverse when the engine is cold. If it doesn't engage gear until around 1500-2000 rpm and then engages with a whiplash-inducing jerk, then your box is shot. Repair will cost 33-35k. Remember this goes away when gear oil reaches running temp.

If you really love the car, I know a place where they fix it.

And keep in mind machan, that a trouble-free car is a well-maintained one. If you, like me, believe in preventing problems by keeping the car in good nick, then it'll cost you a decent amount but it won't leave you stranded on the road

AFAIK ES5 has 1.6 engine with non cvt gear box. I've never seen a manual ES5 ( facelifted or non facelifted ) in town or even in AL forums. fuel consumption will be 9-10 in city & 11-13 in long trips (but highly depends on driver)

I don't think. It got much torque than 1.5 ES8s and ES1s. My guess is around 9.

Also the resale values is higher due to ..... ( I don't know)
