Fuel Filter !!!

As per my car mannual they have mentioned it as Part #23300-15010 (VIC FC-146) but I noticed that prevoius owenrs has changed the fuel filter to some other model ( L Shape as per Mech, guy) . THefore Can I I replace original part ( Which connect 02 fuel pipes from top) instead of existing filter?

Or Are there L shape filters also in same design. (VIc filter FC-146)?

from the VIC number he gave I found that the car is a an old Ae90/91 or a AT150 Corona, so I guess any old filter thats available and compatible is good enough. I wouldn't lose sleep over the type.
