I am looking for a Indian Alto. but at the moment people try to sell these at unreasonable prices. will this price come down with in next few months.

only god knows whether the prices will ever come down in Sri lanka. However, I have a feeling that the car market will crash due to

1. high dollar:rupee ratio

2. not enough lending facilities to finance new/second hand purchases (lot of companies have curtailed giving out facilities foreseing an economic crisis

3. Unreasonable after tax prices of brand new vehicles and this will affect the second hand prices to go up eventually

4. adverse policies of government in discouraging public from buying/operating vehicles for personal use.

half agree. but before the first tax reduction, the tax rate is more higher than what we have nw. so in that period the market is there.

Before the first tax reduction, the car market was bearly performing compared to the way it performed in recent times. It was there but not many people went for brandnew purchases except Indian and other cost effective vehicles. The main stream dealers and car sales were just surviving and some of them were going kaput.

We will be back in there or worse as

1. YOM limitation will contribute towards higher auction prices, back then it was 2 1/2 years

2. Fluctuating and high dollar rate will adversely contribute unlike the previous condition which you can't compare

3. There were no issue in financing facilities back then and people could easily go for a facility where as now, lot of banks and finance companies have curtailed giving out such facilities

4. Lot of car sales are finding difficult to even finance the LCs and ordered imports and they will compelled to sell at lower prices to feed the working capital. The moment this happens, a price crash is inevitable.

Disclaimer : I don't want any one to disagree or agree on the above veiwpoint as it's completely my personal view on the future of the carmarket of Sri lanka :D

Im sorry to sound pessimistic dude but the way things are prices coming down is unlikely

its pure hell when people quote 1.7 million for a 12 year old high mileage Jap car !!!!

Yes but Japanese cars are much better than indian cars. for eg Starlet is a much reliable car with full option, it is still around 1.5m but people try to sell basic indian alto for 1.8m. is this worth that much.

A*W has reduced the price of their vehicles ( special offer )

Maruti 800 new price 1550000

Alto XLI new price 1885000

Alto K10 new price 2080000

Estilo new price 2325000

WagonR new price 2700000

what they have done was average pricing I believe.

Earlier they were setting the prices based on the latest price (price of newly cleared vehicle of the same spec) and apply across all items in the stock. Now they have realized the sales got dropped and averaged considering the new prices and old prices, simply.

Some more importers will follow this ..

Yes they have given this new price as a special offer for a limited time but if they want to compete with the Japanese vehicles they need to come down the price. movement of the the vehicles has dropped significantly because of the high prices.

Members,

I know a big time importer had gone to China to negotiate vehicle costs and one order will be more than 150 Vehicle RHD. Cars, Vans and Trucks. If he succeeds his mission then Srilanka will have more Chinese vehicles. At the moment Chinese vehicles are cheaper than Japanese vehicles.

Their reliability Slandered also improved not like few years back.

I hope A/L members will not misunderstand that I am supporting Chinese products. This is only for information.

You make it sound like he went to North Korea to infiltrate the communist government and take down Kim Jong Un. Is this importer reffered to as agent 007?
