The Don
Guys do you know a place to get ek3 distributor checked? Don't think this needs a special mechanic just because it's an Ek3. Just go to your normal competent mechanic. What exactly is wrong with your distributor?
Ek3 Ferio
Don't think this needs a special mechanic just because it's an Ek3. Just go to your normal competent mechanic. What exactly is wrong with your distributor? Hmmm there is a jerk in low rpms Don. My normal mechanic suspects it is Distributor, he tried to find a one to replace the distributor and see, but he was unable to find a matching one. My car is 96 ferio. It has 7 wires flat plug in the distributor. I need to have a check on it coz I had issues after I replaced the distributor oil seal a year back. How ever it is adjusted there is a ignition sound even in 1st gear and I feel torque is also not reasonable.

Now it could be the distributor but this needs to be concluded by a method of elimination. First you need to figure out if all the spark plugs are firing efficiently. This is done via visual inspection, but by also removing an ignition wire and running the car on 3 cylinders to see if it makes a difference to the miss. Usually you can identify the cylinder responsible using this method. Once that is done you need to find the source. spark plug, HT lead, distributor, wires to the distributor (as it turned out to be in my case. A wire had gotten sheared of by catching on something else). There is a slight possibility that if the ignition system is ok, one of your cylinders is under compression as well. But there are many possibilities, so best to eliminate the obvious first.

Thanks for the detailed explanation, But the issue is most of the mechanics has no patience to perform the method of elimination as you mentioned. They asking me to replace the distributor first. Thats how they perform elimination. Where do you repair you car? Do you have any good mechanic for me to recommend? If so can you please PM me? Well there is a guy called Sisira who is an honest chap but not the most knowledgable about modern cars though he should be able to cope with yours. He works in a garage on the road connecting the Gansaba junction with Sunethra devi junction (some call the road attidiya road) and if you are travelling from Gansaba junction towards Sunetra devi junction the garage is just after the bridge on your right. The other mechanic I go to is Wasantha, and he is very useful when it comes to sourcing parts because he will find it for you, but on the other side he will keep a cut, but very knowledgeable mechanic with the only exception being ECU and vehicle electronics. His garage is in Wanathamulla off base line road. Edited October 1, 2012 by The Don
