Hello everyone,

Yesterday took my car to a long journey arround warakapola Area in hill roads and was returning home to clmbo ..before starting back checked the coolent and added some water to top it up.. When passing kirllawela i stopped the car to give way to a crossing vehicle and when tried to move ,car stalled and couldnt start again .. And the temp was in the red zone in the gauge .my bad didnt notice it before..

Stepped out and checked the radiator holly crap nothing was in it no coolent all gone ..further investigation found out one rubber hose was burst open n it has drain all the coolent..

Called up a friend and towed the car to home and left it to cool down and fixed the rubber hose and started the car and add water to refill the radiater. car started fine took it a test drive and car runs fine ...onlything bad is can hear a wining noise around t belt area its like tbelt rubbing agaist cover or something like that still no idea and also when started on neutral idle speed slightly fluctuating it was like that before also but it feels like more now.. And no bubbles in the oil cap and raditer as well and no white smoke from the muffler.. Only thing seems faulty is the noice from the t belt area .. Could anyone please advice whattodo .. FYI car is honda civic 1992 sedan Vtec-e..

The whine from the belt area is probably unrelated, but to be on the safe side get your water pump checked out as this maybe the culprit. But its probably a worn bearing somewhere.

You seem to have had a close escape. I had a similar one recently when the fan stalled.

Hi Don,Thanx a lot for the fast reply ..well noted and one more thing, can the t belt cover melt due to excessive heat and it get deformed and touch the t belt? and do i need to dismantle all and check the t belt propelry and also a compression check for any cracks in cylinder liners.. Will these be necessary .please advice..

As don said check the water pump because "kara kara " noise is most probably related to bad water pump. I faced to similar situation 3 y back and paid the ultimate price due to ignorance. ( I too have Eg single carb). In EGs water pump situated near the area you are discribing and see any water leaks from the right side of the engine ,below the pulleys. Hope you havent blown your head gasket, but run the car with close eye on temp gauge specially with AC on.

The T Belt cover is made out of heat resistant plastic so it would take a lot to make that melt.

If the car is starting properly and there is no oil in water and no water in oil, I think a quick check for oil leaks from seals, the water pump, other hoses should suffice.

I had to replace them with the pump as I mentioned before . Suprisingly T belt cover was available brand new at tech motors!

If the hose bursted due to aging, it's not an issue really. But if it's due to some another reason, that needs to be sorted out. Just find out whether the cooling system over pressures or not.

For the sound, remove the auxiliary belts (some still refers to thses as fan belts / belt or belts depend of the design) and run the engine. If the whining noise continues, that comes either from water pump or t-belt rollers.

If the noise goes off once you take the belts off, then it must be from belt itself, belt tensioner or one of components run by the belt such as alternator bearings, PAS pump or AC compressor.

Hello Harshansenadhir.. Well noted and greately appriciate the detailed advice ..thank you very much.. Yeah i do notice some times my radiater in out hoses are really hard n stiff when the engine is running for a long time may be a block..and at times temp gauage rises suddnly and drops after some time.. The whole water circulation system shoud be thoughrely checked and planingto replace the radiator as well coz its old n rusted ..

A good radiator clean would probably make the cooling process more stable. Opt for a manual clean at a radiator repair shop rather than a chemical flush.

Hello again,

Just wanted to give an update about the condition coz hoping it might help some one in future .. Managed to get the car back to good runing condition ..took the car to Randika (kelaniya)..after examing it was found that blocked radiator was the culprit and head gasket gone and also there was some play in the pistons .. Bought complete engine overhaul kit did all the gaskets seal n hoses cleaned all ..changed piston rings..replacedthe radiator with new dual core alluminium radiator (top n bottom tanks brass) cost 15k ..and all spares costed arround 30k and repair cost 16k ..also the whining noise was from the melted n deformed t belt cover.. And feels so relieved now car in good condition and got to mention Randika has done a fine job no issues till now.. And thanks a lot guys for valueble comments.. And lessons learned never underestimate heat issues :).... Cheers:)
