Hi Guys

Just need some info about procedre price of documentaory work to be done ete etc to convert petrol car to a diesel car

Not sure about the word "procedre"!

Following extracted from RMV web site;

In the Conversion of a petrol engine of a vehicle with English numbers to a diesel engine the following documents should be produced. (Fuel conversion can not be performed until 3 years have elapsed since the date of first registration)

  • Registration certificate
  • Vehicle Identity card
  • In case of leasing facilities, letter from the relevant institution stating that it does not object to the conversion.
  • Original of the revenue licence for the current year.

Type of Engine Conversion Fee (Rs.) =35000.00+ 3300.00+ 350.00

By considering above, licence fee and difference of prices of petrol and diesel, no profit at all by conversion.

My opinion is that, If the conversion from Patrol to Diesel is needed, it has to be done in a correct way, which sometimes may require not just the engine but lot of replacement of other parts of the vehicle. And even after the conversion, It is hard to expect what you experienced earlier with the patrol engine. If you do not have any financial issue and doing this as a hobby, its so good to proceed which you may be able to learn a lot. Otherwise no point. What WCW also pointed was true and 100% correct. Just my opinion. :)

Most people think of only the cost of fuel and decide on a diesel BUT when considering other things such as servicing costs, engine repairs, performance, initial outlay etc etc having a petrol IMO is better.

im not sure about the documentation part but if your concern is saving money or reducting costs i dont think there is a great difference in the two as CJ5 have mentioned if you sum up your annual cost of running itll prob come to a similar number

Practically almost every single part of a petrol vehicle is made for a petrol engine

and with the vibration etc of the diesel it will affect almost all components.

And it will have it's toll with miles that passes and the additional repairs due to the surgery will be dearer than what you save.

eg- the front suspension are designed for the weight of the original engine,

The fuel lines are designed for the petrol plant

The rpm is for the petrol engine,

The exhaust and many more.

Even the heat and sound insulation of the cabin are made accordingly.

So I think it is insensible to convert to diesel if the car is worth more than it's shell.

Well it will be ok to convert some thing like a 504 but for some thing newer it'll be better to sell it and buy a diesel vehicle.

You mentioned "petrol lorry"... that in its own right HAS to be a classic. What's the make and model etc etc??? Would you care to please share those details with us?????
