Under Carriage Rust

Strikeee

Recommended Posts

Guys,

Y'day, when I took the car(Honda civic ek3 1999) for a wheel alignment, I saw some rust parts under the car. And in some areas it has been spread pretty big.

Is it normal in cars which has driven nearly 15yrs???

If yes/no,

do I need to do something?? if so, what can I do to this matter??

Do I need to take it to a garage and let them treat this rust??

or

Is there a way I can do it by myself??

Cheers

(I forgot to take a snap of it, so that I can share here :( its kinda equivelant to the image in the this link click here)

  • If the rust has not eaten into the metal and weakened it totally, you can get it cleaned, painted and get the under-coating re-done with a brand like W*rth or 3M.
  • If the metal cannot be salvaged, I'm afraid you may need to get a 'tinker bass' to replace the metal. Afterwards, you can get the paintwork and under-coating done.

I'm afraid either option is not DYI if you don't have the metalworking/painting equipment and skills. Depending on the place of rust and the extent of damage, it might affect the structural integrity of the chassis as well. Best is to show the damage and get the opinion of a professional.
