Nissan Wingroad Y11 Automatic Gear Problem And Petrol Smell

MalindaG

Question

I have a nissan wingroad y11 (yom 2000) auto transmission car. Two days ago when I tried to start my car, it didn't start. Then I changed the gear into N position started the car again and it started. Does anyone know what the issue is?

And I have another issue regarding a petrol smell. When I stop the car and turn off the engine, there’s a petrol smell around the car. I’ve checked the petrol line and there’s no physical leak. And my car does only 6-7km/l in city limits and in outstation 11-12km/l with a/c. I did an engine tune-up, but the issue is still there.

Can anyone advice me what should I do?

You mean the car does not start in P but in N it starts right? Pl. explain what happens exactly when tried in P? For example starter motor runs but engine not starting or starting motor does not run etc...

As for the fuel smell do you get the noise of air sucked in when you open the fuel cap after a run? Then check the vacuum hoses connected to the EVAP canister (from square shaped plastic canister one goes to the fuel tank, one to the throttle body through a valve and another left to open air) and see if they are open or damaged. Also try to see if the smell originate from the fuel tank or from the engine bay.

Did your car start in 'P' earier and this is a new issue? Because there are various safeties involved where the car won't start in any other position other than 'N' or in some cases 'N' or 'P'. Some will start in any position if the brake is applied while the key is turned. I don't remember specifics but I think this varies from manufaturer to manufacturer. In which case, you don't have a problem. Unless of course this is a new thing.

yeah. earlier and now it starts in P, on that day it didn't, only the sound when the key is in ON position came eventhoug i tried to start it (i don't know whether it's the starter motor sound). so i move the gear lever and put it in N and gave a try. since then the starting problem didn't occurred again. yeah, there's a noise like opening a soda bottle when i opened the cap after a run. but i'm not sure whether it's a air sucking noise a gas coming out of the tank.
